If you were a little girl in the 1980s, I know how to make you smile

This, however, was THE Barbie to own in the 1980s. My friend across the road had this doll, and the Ken. We'd put them out in the sunshine, and then crawl under her bed so we could see the dolls glow in the dark. I was so very very jealous of her.

But that's okay, I had a Malibu Barbie that got a real suntan when you left her outside for 15 minutes.

I think l was on the spectrum, because l was obsessed with all the heels barbie owned. I spent hours at my elementary girlfriend's house putting on and taking off those cute little sandal heels. And because this girl was so cool, her mom let us watch Dark Shadows and just hangout.

But Barbie needed lots of help with those heels. She was brain dead, because she never knew what heel looked good with pants. Of course my Barbie always wore the pants, which probably explains a lot about me. ;)

Mattel's Barbie & friends' head sculpts were much improved in the mid-80s going forward.
(I used them as face models for drawing.*)
In the 1990s, she had an articulated body** that also facilitated her use as a lay figure.

*Some of their earlier sculpts can look good, too, with the right "face-up" [face detailing].
**That body was marketed as an "action figure" body.
It was popular with adult collectors, both male & female.
It was discontinued because her flat feet
--which allowed her to stand without support--
could not wear standard Barbie shoes.

Talk about little girls in the 80s, I was watching something on tv the other night, about some kids who grew up in Hollywood. So there were several adult actors being interviewed. And one woman named Soleil seemed familiar... but I could not figure out why. Where had I seen her before?

And I'm listening to her talk, trying to figure it out. And then they mentioned what she did when she was a kid. Soleil was Punky Brewster! :) So strange to see her as an adult, I was a big Punky fan, I think I watched every episode.

I WAS OBSESSED WITH PUNKY BREWSTER!!!!

When the show was on the air, I was the target demographic. My mom was so cool, she bought me Punky Brewster themed clothes (yes, even Kmart catered to this important demographic). I had a zip up vest with lots of zipper pockets and buttons. I wore two different color socks, and pants with lots of zipper pockets on the legs, with a bandana around one leg, and sunflower pigtails.

I felt so cool on my days that I dressed up like Punky. I cosplayed before it was a thing! But then again, most girls did. This was the era of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper.

My before mentioned friend across the road and I would pretend we were Punky and Cherrie.

I think I might even have a season 1 DVD that I gave my daughter when she was in elementary school. She was obsessed with Punky too!

I remember I thought Punky was so cool  And I liked the dog a lot. :) 80s tv was great.

I remember Barbie and the Rockers. I was born in 1999 . Guesss it’s from having an older sister. And an Auntie born in the 80s.
