It's one of those things

The link is a good article on AI.
Of course AI will develope much faster than the human
brain. Hard drives and programmes vs fatty tissues and neuronal activations. Sure it will be faster, it's more durable.
I fail to see the fear extent in that.
The rise of the machines maybe?

Humans always have, always will have differing reasons,
ethics, goals. That equals anything from bickering to all out war
and greed with no care how power is obtained or who it hurts. While others will not feel this way and do what they feel is for the greater good.
Humans are driven by emotions.
Are the machines?
Probably not and that might be better as logic is neutral.

Your subconscious may be telling you to reach over for a bottle of water...

Or a diet Coke.......

Now who's controlling your mind?

Me. The subconscious part of my mind is still a part of my conscious mind.
I consciously chose the type of bottled water though through my deliberation
R/O water with electrolytes is healthier than tap water.

This is like a Socrates Cafe only better...I don't have to sit around the table with a group of people. :)

Psychological manipulation.
Like when companies were told to make prices one penny
less-- $3.99 will lead the people to think that is so much better than $4.00.
Or have the weatherman say tomorrow will be partly sunny instead of partly cloudy.
I thought it was all partly silly.
But, humans have a herd mentality that is easy to manipulate.

Think for yourself. Know the facts. Learn all you can.
I have my own reasons why I buy or don't buy in certain cases.
I like to make my own household cleaners.
Lemon juice works wonders on soap and hard water residues.
Vinegar mixed with liquid soap in a spray bottle of water for everything else. Natural. No chemical worries.

Whether you go for the exhibitions of the companies or use your own reasoning it's still your own thoughts and choice.
Now I'll GO read that link! :p

You know about Edward Bernays?

Whether you go for the exhibitions of the companies or use your own reasoning it's still your own thoughts

No it isn't :)

Advertising has infiltrated into basic human need.
Hunger manifests subconsciously first
Then becomes thought.

Arby's have the meats.

Lots of influences on how the thought arises.
Culture, history etc
How influential advertising is may be the question .
Some a lot more than others.
Aspies potentially a lot less. - here mentality, social status - virtue signalling etc
See Edward above.
I'm thirsty - water is boring. I need something fizzy. Don't know why :)
I think of myself like that -;isn't that guy or gal in the ads?
I should read up on it :)
My take is a lot more is subconscious than we think.
One comment I read somewherw years ago was
"We are being farmed" kinda fits. Make us unhealthy, keep us alive. Thoroughly monetized.
Vinegar mixed with liquid soap in a spray bottle of water for everything else. Natural. No chemical worries.

Baking powder arm and Hammer .
In England ,an early ad campaign was for
Royal - baking powder.
The guy made millions .
Just the same stuff x5 in price.
Like all the companies today.
America certainly leads the way in inventing a need..

Arby's have the meats.

(The ad didnt appeal)

Edward Bernays is what I call a Spin Doctor.
A professional in how to get to groups of people through
psychological manipulation.
Manipulation, not thought control.
No one owns our thoughts.
Subconscious or conscious.
Many people think just because someone with a well known name says something is En Vogue it's a "Must Have."
Oh, that's a good one..."A Must Have."
That's heard everywhere in advertising.
So what? So it means alot to some, nothing to others.

Try living in a rural, (very rural) setting.
No electric, well for water, outhouse, ice-box, root cellar
for home canned goods, home grown vegetables, go hunting for meat or wring a chicken neck in the back yard.
There is a general store with one brand of soda, milk, bread, flour, make it yourself basics.
Man if you can buy a candy bar you're doing good.
One bank, one funeral parlor, a feed store, a sawmill,
one school grades 1-12. A service station and post office.
No TV, no phone, if you're lucky there is a battery run radio.
How much do you think the latest brand of eyeshadow matters?
Been there, done that. Maybe that helped me not to care for the "in" thing along with ASD.

Whatever...no one owns your brain. The amount they can influence is up to you.
That's just plain biological fact.

Yup.

To me this was a very good thread.
I enjoyed it. Gets the grey matter thinking.
Here is a link to an interesting article on how to convince
someone of almost anything.
Like the brainwashing adverts try to do.
It even has a sub-article on how to make someone fall in love with you. hmmm.

The one line that describes why I have contended all the way that my thoughts are MY thoughts, even the subconscious ones, states the concious mind would have to be absent to do a complete reprogramming of someone's mind.
