On Lag Baomer, a minor Jewish holiday usually in May, there's a custom to shoot a bow and arrow. The reasoning is convoluted: It commemorates that no rainbow was seen during the lifetime of Rabbi Shimon, who died that day. A rainbow's appearance "reminds" G-d that He pledged not to destroy the world with a flood, so that it having to be shown is mostly negative.
