Autumn! I live in New England. The crisp air, the brilliant polychrome foliage, the fresh apples and pumpkins at farm stands.
The smell of woodsmoke from people's chimneys. The crunch of colorful confetti leaves on my walks.
Woolybear caterpillars scooting along the grass to catch any of the warm sunshine. Birds getting busy at my bird feeder, as their seed switches to black oil sunflower, safflower, and nuts rich in fats.
The first soups of the season--usually a rich, savory homemade chicken soup from my neighbors, or maybe Portuguese kale soup with chorizo. Best of all, I make homemade spiced pumpkin soup, and deliver it to my neighbors.
My dog brings the scent of the cold in with him, nestled in his coat. His fur changes to a heavier, denser, darker, dire wolf pelt.
Kids in school, I like that. It feels good.
Hot cocoa! Favorite comfy jacket and warm woolen hat.
Walking and walking.... such an invigorating, healing pleasure with the summer's heat gone!
My town is an "orange town" in the autumn, due to its many brilliant maples.
Fall on the east coast is so beautiful. I grew up in the foothills of the Appalachians. I miss it anytime I'm not there for Fall.
