Losing my trust in God.

I used to be a catholic; well I was raised as one, but my faith is different now.

If you would like to chat, you can inbox me.

I am now one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Actually, the thing you need to know before proceeding are the "general rules and guidelines" about posting on religion, and reminding everyone in your original post. You can click to them from the line in my signature and copy them. That gives you something to point to, immediately, if any reply violates them.

This board is international, and I usually assume there's at least one of "everything" here.

I moved this thread to a more appropriate section, and as Aspergirl4hire mentioned, we have strict rules governing such discussions. This thread will be monitored closely. Thanks.

This is the section that applies, I think:

"Regarding religious debates, we are not allowing any threads to continue to that debate religion. If a thread regarding religion or spiritual beliefs turns into a debate it will be closed and actions may be taken against those involved.

This is a community for autism and we would like to keep the concentration on that. Letting known topics such as these spiral out of control takes away from everyone on the forum."

I guess there could be some discussion relating autistic thinking style and losing/achieving/maintaining trust in God.

It is a possibility that some people would want to discuss from that point of view...

???

Yes, and that is my hope. :)

As a rule of thumb, if I think I have to ask if a demographic is present before I say something, I can safely assume that what I'm about to say is inappropriate. If it would embarrass me to have a boss, family member, or journalist hear me, or a friend quote me, I can safely assume that my conscience has the better of it, and I need to reword what I want to say and present with positive intent.

Hope this helps.

While this is true, I think we can make exception for instances where someone is specifically looking for a common experience, couldn't we?

I think I appreciate your point--someone with a wound may well look for comfort. However, finding comfort shouldn't mean violating the mission of the board, the spirit of the board, or the explicit rules of the board which try to make both mission and spirit accessible and understandable. Specifically attacking based on faith, religion, creed, race, or gender is just not on.

I'd be happy to get a PM from either (or both) of you. PMs are private. You can say what you like (and I have the same freedom). If it's a rant, just say so in the first line so I will adjust my own filters. I'll help if I can, and I'll tell you if I can't.

I don't have any rants. I was referring to a possibility that someone may wish to find someone of the same category they are, in order to commiserate without outsiders. Or something. On reflection, I suppose it's more common for people to say, "Is anyone else here an X" but autistics tend to speak less conventionally, so I have drawn no conclusions about the OP and don't currently plan on doing so.

Would it be safer to rephrase the topic "losing trust in a power greater then oneself" that can cover a wide array of belief systems

I assumed the OP wanted to know there would be someone who can relate to their experience, and/or offer advice within a specific context before sharing. Not that they were going to say something offensive to or about that particular group. But I guess it could be interpreted both ways. I hope the OP hasn't been scared off if they needed help. Maybe starting a thread afresh might help?
In answer to the question, there is a wide mix of people here, including RC, some of whom have replied above.
Personally, I think having doubts is healthy as it forces us to think and own our beliefs rather than just following the crowd. But be careful what you throw out - don't throw out the baby with the water if only the water needs changing.

Without the thread title, the opening text does look a bit suspicious, but the title I think definitely points to searching for a common experience.

As I said, aspies/autistics tend to speak unconventionally, so things might look a bit different from what they actually are.

Personally, I think the thread title is fine. The opening post is a red flag. I know a number of members here who'd have no problem chiming in about losing faith in God. I believe it's when any of us zero in on a particular creed that it becomes an issue. Note that two mods are already paying attention.

tree did a nice job finding a similar thread that picked this up; reading and learning from that history may be a good approach that meets camerartus 's needs and stay in guidelines. I defer to moderator rulings, natch...

There are a lot of Catholics here. If the thread gets closed for whatever reason, you might could PM some of them to help you out.

As for me, I'm originally raised Protestant and now am half-Protestant, half-Taoist. I might could help you come to terms with your faith in God, but obviously I'm not one to build your faith back up in the church seeing as how I've gone to the dark side and all. :p

Let's end the discussion on the legitimacy of this thread and get back to the topic at hand, eh? ;)

I am a "lapsed Catholic" and kind of consider myself to be a "Cultural Catholic," and am friends with a lot of Catholics, so maybe I can relate to what your question might be. Please feel free to ask! :)
