"Me, my autism and cults" - Heart & Soul podcast from the BBC World Service

Normally I'd say I'm lucky to only really trust a small handful of people, but that's a double-edged sword, too.

I've watched from afar when people get sucked into scams and unfortunately there's usually nothing you can do. I guess it's just a certain personality type or something that I'll never understand. I guess we're all probably exploitable to some degree, but some of us are a lot tougher to crack in that way

There was an incident at COP26 in Glasgow when Greta Thunberg was pictured chanting "You can stick your climate justice up your arse", presumably unaware that "up your arse" is an expression of contempt. Not so immune to being fooled then.

Literally anyone can be conned, all it takes is the right scam. Respect to you and anyone else who admits to being conned, most people don't want to admit it happened to them.

To quote my fellow Scotsman and industry peer, R. Paul Wilson:

"If you think you can't be conned, then you are exactly the type of person a con artist wants to meet."

Precisely why I make it a point not to make any contact whatsoever with potential phone scammers. They can't even get to first base with me if they can't execute their pitch, whether it's clever or not. I simply won't take the chance.

I wonder if she's ever considered just how many of her followers are just using her. Exploiting her fame to get themselves attention and don't actually care much, if at all, about her or the environment...

I’m pretty sure she understood the meaning of the phrase and meant it exactly as it is supposed to be used. She was describing how the politicians are all words and no action.

Greta Thunberg gave a rally speech Tuesday in Glasgow near the COP26 conference, leading protestors in a chant of “You can shove your climate crisis up your arse” to the tune of “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain.”

She called the COP26 participants, “just politicians and people in power pretending to take our future seriously, pretending to take the present seriously of the people who are being affected already today by the climate crisis.”

I think she has considered this. She is very distrustful and angry for this reason among other hypocrisy in fame and politics.

I'm going to follow her career path as she gets older because I find her to be an interesting person. Yes, she seems angry and frustrated at the practices and behaviors of most of humanity in relation to the earth's ecosystem. One of the reasons I'm interested is to see how humanity's behaviors may affect her outlook on life in general.

I find a similarity to Bob Dylan in his younger years in his opposition to and frustration with the direction humanity was going. Songs like Blowin' in the Wind, Masters of War and his other folk songs are such compelling treatises and warnings about damaging human behaviors (e.g. war, exploitation, hate, etc). Those songs were so powerful that they should have been a wake-up call and an impetus for collective change that sadly...didn't happen. He seemed to become reclusive as he aged and his songwriting changed direction. It's just my own personal opinion, but I think he became very discouraged with his wise words and his impassioned beliefs being ignored. He wanted to help change things for the betterment of humanity and humanity didn't care enough to change.

Will something similar happen with Greta? Quite possible and for the same reason.
