Movies about Asperger's Syndrome

I'm watching this movie now. I was laughing with the scene of Tom Cruise in the car with his girlfriend and how she wants to talk and he just wants to think. That's a guy for you. :p

I was looking for a movie that wasn't so intense. I like the movie "Adam" better. Dustin Hoffman doesn't act like the other Aspie movies I've seen. They say he is high functioning, but it doesn't appear that he could function out in the world on his own. Is Dustin Hoffman overdoing the acting in this movie?

Is Dustin Hoffman overdoing the acting in this movie?

In "Rain Man" Dustin Hoffman was playing a character based on Kim Peek, who had Agenesis of the Corpus Collosum. Not autism.

As for over-acting, LOL...after all, he IS a method-actor. :p Some people believe that's over-preparation for any role...others think it's what works for certain big-name actors. Go figure.

I know I could look it up, but right now I'm watching the movie. What is Agenesis of the Corpus Collosum? Sounds like something is not formed right in the brain. In the movie they say he has Autism. I still like the movie "Adam" because it seems more realistic.

Look up the term and the inspiration for the movie. But then as in so many movies, creative license can take a horse and turn it into a camel. Even when based on real people. From Kim Peek to Sir William Wallace.

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone here can do card counting? (I'm asking just because it's in the Rainman movie and not for any other reason - I swear.)

Most people in the Griffin Book know how to count cards. :p

That's where you get the royal treatment in most any casino. They take your picture, establish your "biography" and publish it into the book. So you can be identified in any casino across the planet and given the bum's rush. Or worse.

I kept complaining about Story of Luke before it came out but ended up buying it. I did like it in the end :)

I'm pretty late to respond, but "Mary and Max" is an absolutely beautiful indie film on Netfix. It's the one and only movie I've ever cried over. It's amazing, the whole world should watch it. So there.

I liked Adam. Just like I liked Rain Man and Forrest Gump. A lot of Aspies find those movies offensive or inaccurate. Personally, I think that's a bit of an overreaction. The fact that a character with Asperger's is portrayed a certain way doesn't mean that the director is trying to imply that ALL the people with Asperger's are like this. Movies that are for entertainment purposes are no documentaries and can be dramatized or theatrical. But that's not just the case for movie characters with Asperger's. This also counts for all the characters that are mean teachers, soldiers, politicians, bullies, secretaries and other individuals that are often portrayed in a specific way.

I just made my NT boyfriend watch Adam. He said what was the point? That is his life, except as a woman. And I thought I was 'faking normal' so well, haha.

Personally I related more to Mozart and the Whale, but that's to be expected as a female, right?

Adam was a bit exaggerated to me. I think it could just me being insecure but I find even in my absolute lowest level of self-awareness and maturity I couldn't find myself saying "Were you sexually aroused at the park? Because I was." I felt they portrayed him as living in a cave the first 30 years of his life, he seemed more socially incompetent than socially awkward.

Exaggerated, yes, but with a basis in reality. He would get upset about the same things, or say the wrong thing in the same moments, etc.

Especially when dealing with topics where the 'average Joe' would not possess understanding, having subtle aspie behaviors in a movie would just confuse them, like, "So what's the big deal? We're all a little bit like that."
