I love music, anything with a good beat and go through various phases/obsessions (very random).

Just wanted to see how diverse others music taste was?

I'm into at the moment (both artists and genre's);

- Chas & Dave
- Kraftwerk
- Electronica
- Jazz
- Missy Elliot
- Trap/EDM/Dubstep/Drum and Bass
- Alexis Jordan
- Englebert Humperdink

Eclectic ;)

I think I've been getting into electronica? Listening to things like: faded paper figures, m83, some of empire of the sun, Oliver, and I do enjoy Nero and Skrillex

I have quite a diverse range of musical styles that I enjoy, mostly because I don't really enjoy the "genre" as such but particular bands, their songs and the sounds they make. I usually end up liking things like '60s and '70s Rock and Blues, New Wave/Post Punk, some Indie Rock, Jazz, Classical orchestral music, Brass Bands, Country, a little bit of Ska/Reggae, and Video Game soundtracks from the 1980s and 1990s, but if I like it.. I like it, it doesn't really matter what genre it is.

(Video game soundtracks these days have become a bit too much like movie soundtracks with real orchestras and such, and while I also appreciate and enjoy that, they lack the unique sonic characteristics that I associate with video games because they are no longer at the mercy of hardware limitations)

I like to do this every once in a while...I load my entire music collection on Winamp, then shuffle through the whole things and imagine that I'm listening to the most eclectic radio station in the history of the world.

Here are the 20 songs that come up when I do this right now:
  1. Air - Night Sight
  2. Duke Ellington - Dusk on the Desert
  3. The Guess Who - These Eyes
  4. Barenaked Ladies - One Week
  5. Louis Prima - Night Train
  6. The Prisoners - Far Away
  7. The Police - It's Alright For You
  8. R.E.M. - Wendell Gee
  9. Led Zeppelin - D'Yer Maker
  10. The Electric Prunes - Luvin
  11. Coldplay - Charlie Brown
  12. J. Geils Band - Love Stinks
  13. Bloomfield, Kooper & Stills - Really
  14. Queen - Stone Cold Crazy
  15. Our Lady Peace - Superman's Dead
  16. BB & Q Band - On the Beat
  17. Nick Gilder - Here Comes the Night
  18. Joe Ely - Cornbread Moon
  19. Bjork - Big Time Sensuality
  20. The Animals - You're On My Mind

My hand picked personal collection of better bitrate mp3s that plays randomly 24 hours a day thru my Onkyo setup now numbers over 5,000 titles in many genres.
Bluetooth is a blessing.
I Youtube music all day long and often turn down the Onkyo to hear my computer's sound system that is off the chart.
My FM transmitter broadcasts my mp3 stuff across my property.
There are 5 component stereo systems in use at my home and garage.
I own two 100 disc cd players and three five disc units that are always full.
I could build a bunker out of my CD collection.
The vinyl pile is pretty big too.
I have about 1,000 cassette tapes.
There is still about 50 8-tracks in the pile.
I approach my car audio system building like a scientist...lots of watts, speakers and anal amounts of crossover work to duplicate studio sound.
I was a fixture in the Pittsburgh Pa USA music venues all my life.
I met a ton of very popular musicians across the years.
My strat copy was passed to another player after carpal tunnel syndrome crippled my hands.
My company manufactured studio grade microphone parts for the recording industry.

What can I say...I love my music! ;)

Wow It's so nice to see lots of other music lovers with equally diverse tastes!

I've always thought that with AS, because you disconnect with society some-what you can just enjoy music that YOU like rather than what your friends listen to. Which is part of the reason why some aren't so diverse.

Nero is a good one.. Welcome to Reality is an amazing album. Rocco have you hear Sub Focus?

I'm building a sort hifi/home cinema setup at the moment, Yamaha, Marantz and Monitor Audio. Something I've always wanted to do and I absolutely love it, I've fallen in love with music again.

I'm trying to branch out and diversify further with these at the moment:

- Listen to some more Jean Michel Jarre
- Neu!
- Alan Parsons Project
- Eagles (Listen to some more, love them)
- Fleetwood Mac
- Yello

I could go on. I've just started buying CD's as the quality difference is massive, sometimes I swear I go backwards in time.

My preference seems to go in phases.

I've got a fair amount of diverse styles on my computer, but I really need to be in the mood, and thus, my media player of choice rarely goes on shuffle. I actively need to pick music I want to listen to. It's also why radio never appealed to me.

I will say that I have a slight inclination to more extreme genres in general. Grindcore, IDM, Industrial. Though a few styles less on the fringes apply as well. Yet I also enjoy some classical stuff or movie scores and even have the occasional mood where I'll check out some pop music as well as some significant artists from all decades. Heck, I even end up listening to rap or hip hop from time to time.

Sometimes I wish I could get into more genres overall, but there are plenty of genres that have little to no appeal for me aurally. I can appreciate the craft that goes in it and for that reason I will give things a go. EDM in general is a mixed bag; a few subgenres do it for me, while others... no thanks. In fact, I can like something so specific that I won't care for anything besides a specific album by an artist (regardless of genre).

I don't care that much for genres. I'm not picking things I want to like by genre-descriptors. I might however go by concert flyers and see what other bands are playing as support for artists I like. That's one of the easier ways for me to check out new things I guess.

Going through my music collection; these are a few names that come up
Beneath the massacre, Slayer, Despised Icon, The Agonist, Tech Nine, Katy Perry, Igorrr, Danny Elfman, MC Frontalot, Smashing Pumpkins, Rasputina, The Glitch Mob, Periphery, Knife Party, Amon Tobin, Insane Clown Posse, SunnO)))), Borgore, Venetian snares, Mayhem, Combichrist, Ladytron, Elvis Presley, Grossstadtgefluster, Depeche mode, The Mars Volta, Nine inch nails, Atari Teenage Riot... and the list goes on

I hear your point about specific albums, It's usually when an artist does something a bit off key for what they normally do I pick up on that. Although not exactly your genre, Bionic by Christina Aguilera.. loved it yet majorly slated by her fans, not really liked much of her other stuff.

I too would like to get into some more genre's, just seems to be hard finding good stuff if you're a complete noob to the scene. Liquid drum and bass being one, love it.. not a clue what I'm looking for or how.

In fact; I remember that album had a few songs that I found pretty ok, since from all the stuff I knew from her, Bionic was a bit more electropop-ish, and I do have some things within that style I do enjoy; Ladytron, some random Lady Gaga songs, Alice in videoland and a few more.

But you're right, not really my genre as such, an album like that I can appreciate every once in a while though. Perhaps due to being mostly into electronic music production; such things do open your mind (and ears) to some other things.

I'm into music like The Band, Pat Benatar, Laura Branigan, Leonard Cohen, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Rainbow, The Rolling Stones, Santana, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and Neil Young. Have many of their albums and listen to them a lot. I have over 600 vinyl records, about 633 at the moment. Many of them "inherited" from my parents, but some that I've bought myself.

My most listened to album at the moment is Frontline by Australian folk group Redgum, the hit single from that album I've Been to Bali Too is great :)

- Eagles (Listen to some more, love them)
- Fleetwood Mac
The Eagles are one of my all time favourite bands - Awesome yet tasteful guitar playing, plus very impressive vocal harmonies - what's not to like?

Never really listened to much Fleetwood Mac but since my band has been playing Go Your Own Way, I've really started to enjoy that song. Just like I said about the eagles, guitars and vocal harmonies ftw :)

I met Bruce the same night he met Joey Grusheki at The Decade club in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania USA :D
I got to see Carlos onstage from the pit at the amphitheater front and center rubbing elbows with the pit boss leaning on the stage as he played his guitar above me
I went to a Dylan show about five years ago :p
The rest of you lineup listed have heavy influences on my collection

For the past few weeks, I've been going through this intense Steely Dan phase. I loaded up my phone with all their studio albums, and I've got 'em on shuffle. I'll keep rolling with that until I feel like something else!

Love that Purdie Shuffle! ("Home At Last", "Babylon Sisters")

Gotta love the Eagles. I can't listen to them on something low quality though, they sound the best with a good FLAC copy or even better CD/Vinyl.

Fleetwood mac is something new for me, I'm going through a phase of *making* myself lisen to new things. This and Alan Parsons project I'm listening to.
