My 2020 photos

My infamous slideshows, been doing them for several years now, 2020 was a weird, strange, chaotic year... I only worked a few days into the new year until I was laid off... My daily walks led to a rather massive volume of photos!

For those who have seen these before, it was hard to put this one together, lots of excellent photos didn't make it in, and it's still far longer than my usual ones, still... Here goes, view as you have the time to do it...

I enjoyed it, thank you Sherlock.

It gives a real sense of your city, it's people and the landscape. Very well done.

Hey! Did you get a picture of the Jupiter and Saturn aligning. Forgot to ask.

It's cool. I saw it but, it was very distant. No real way to get a good picture.

It would have been interesting to see, but the weather gods weren't cooperating... We had 25 to 40 cm of snow that night!

This is what I photographed on Monday night

Great job with that!

There were a lot of good photos in your slideshow. You have good eye for photography! I especially like the B&W and vintage filter pics... :)

I've always enjoyed your work over the years. Excellent. Thanks for sharing these with us!

I do nature photos mostly. Flowers and landscapes and sometimes wildlife when I am lucky enough to encounter it.

One of my dreams was to set up a studio and do nothing but nudes of people of all ages and genders and become well known for my work. That sure didn't happen. I've had to discard a number of dreams along the way.

At least nature doesn't talk back to you :p Unless a Grizzly Bear is charging you

I have seen exactly 3 truly wild black bears while hiking. All three of them ran like hades when they saw me. (I once did a blog post about a bare meeting a bear.) More often I see the tracks of where they'd just been. I saw one mountain lion but it was from my car. As soon as I stopped, it vanished like a puff of smoke. Occasionally a coyote. A fair number of rattlesnakes. They are the only ones who hold still long enough for a photo.

The place to see bears is heavily developed campgrounds. The bears are habituated to humans and humans are still stupid enough to feed them against all advice and all regulations. They'll happily rip the windows out of your car if they think there are goodies inside. Reminds me of some impoverished parts of LA I've lived in.

You mean like this? :p This is a vintage photo I actually own!

That's a park bear, all right. Habituated to humans. You wouldn't see a fully wild bear within a mile of that lot. Bears that are fed by humans often have to be relocated or killed. They lose their shyness and can become demanding or destructive.

This furry blob is a wild black bear running away from a domesticated human bare at top speed. About a hundred yards distant. Only photo of one I've ever got and only barely got this one - though I see recent scat and tracks all the time. With the open terrain out here, they detect you from a long ways off and run. A bear can run faster than a racehorse.

Deer, OTOH, are much easier to stalk. And much more plentiful. All you have to do is walk quietly and freeze when you see one, then wait until they stop looking at you to move again.

I don't have right gear or the necessary time to put into it to be a proper wildlife photographer.
