MYTHICAL CREATURE CHAIN

Succubus

A succubus is a female demon or supernatural entity in folklore (traced back to medieval legend) that appears in dreams and takes the form of a woman in order to seduce men, usually through sexual activity. The male counterpart is the incubus. Religious traditions hold that repeated sexual activity with a succubus may result in the deterioration of health or even death.

Medusa was a monster, one of the Gorgon sisters and daughter of Phorkys and Keto, the children of Gaea (Earth) and Oceanus (Ocean). She had the face of an ugly woman with snakes instead of hair; anyone who looked into her eyes was immediately turned to stone. Her sisters were Sthenno and Euryale, but Medusa was the only mortal of the three.

I love these, I thought they were amazing when I first saw them,
and I couldn't remember their name YAY!
This is why humans explore, makes me want to hop on a ship
and explore the parts of the map where there be dragons

"Taka onna appear as ordinary, homely human women most of the time, but they have the power to elongate their bodies and grow to several meters in height...Their activities are generally limited to peeping into second floor windows."

Undine
Although resembling humans in form they lack a human soul,
so to achieve immortality they must acquire one by marrying a human.
Such a union is not without risk for the man, because if he is unfaithful he is fated to die.

Comes in the night to lick, lick, lick up the filth and slime that's left clinging to the bath bucket (used for tipping water over oneself) or the toilet... Loves filthy, dirty bathrooms and toilets. Hates clean ones. (So keep your bathrooms clean, everyone!:D)

Pregnant women are among its favorite victims. It's said to be clever, tricking people into thinking it is far away by producing a faint sound when it's actually near. Feeds by draining its victims' blood.

Kelpie ...

image22.jpg

A shape-shifting horse like water spirit said to haunt the rivers and streams of Scotland. Kelpies are said to have backward hooves and could change between horse and water. It is said that the horse would mate with a mortal horse and its off spring would have golden wishing hooves. However, when approached, the offspring would suck one in to drown in the nearest body of water. Kelpies are also said to aid water mills and dispose of trash in the sea. Kelpies may hate humans for ruining their home. It is said that one who mentions Christ's name after being trapped will be thrown off the horse.
The Kelpie was also known to lure humans, especially children into the water to kill and eat them. It usually does this by encouraging children to ride on its back, where its skin becomes sticky - almost adhesive - and it then drags them to the bottom of the water to devour leaving only the heart or liver. A common Scottish tale is the story of nine children lured onto a Kelpie's back, while a tenth kept his distance. The Kelpie chased him and tried to catch him, but he escaped. A variation on this is that the tenth child simply stroked the Kelpie's nose, but when his finger became stuck to it he took a knife from his pocket and cut off his own finger. He saved himself, but was unable to help his friends; they are pulled underwater with the Kelpie.

Commonly known as spirits of the dead, Kelpies are not benevolent creatures and some folklore even says that they will not come unless summoned, or to eat.

There was one way in which a Kelpie could be defeated and tamed - the Kelpies' power of shape shifting was said to reside in its bridle, and anyone who could claim possession of it could force the Kelpie to submit to his or her will. A Kelpie in subjugation was highly prized, it had the strength of at least 10 horses and the endurance of many more, but the fairy races were always dangerous captives, especially those as malignant as the Kelpie. It was said that the MacGregor clan were in possession of a Kelpie's bridle, passed down through the generations from when one of their clan managed to save himself from a Kelpie near Loch Slochd.

Amarok

Amarok_giant_wolf.jpg

A fantastical giant wolf from the barren lands of the Arctic, the Amarok is said to hunt alone in contrast to the pack tendencies of its much smaller brethren. Many believe the legend of this lone wolf actually comes from real-time ecological periods when the untraveled deep woods were indeed populated by larger varieties of wolves (like the better known dire wolves). Some also draw parallels of this beast with the Waheela giant wolves that supposedly inhabited the northern parts of Canada.

Alphyn

alphyn_by_gabril.jpg

An Alphyn (from the Germanic word for "chaser" or "wolf"), also known as awfyn or alfin in older writings, is a rare heraldic creature. It is much like a heraldic tiger, but stockier and with tufts of hair covering its body, and also has a thick mane and long thin tongue. Another notable characteristic is its knotted tail, reminiscent of Celtic design and similar to that of the griffin. Sometimes it is depicted as having an eagle's or dragon's talons on its forelegs, other times they are cloven, like a goat's. Occasionally all four feet are depicted as having the claws of a lion. In English heraldry, the Alphyn was used as a heraldic badge of the Lords de la Warr, and also appeared on the guidon held by the knight in the Milleflour Tapestry in Somerset.
