Sorry, I'll just take my artsy-fartsy logo and go then... Also, I do like the idea of a globe... Shall I have another go? Or is the artsy-fartsy too strong in this one? Simplicity, something I apparently do not understand.I just would like to just give my opinion regarding the logo after reading these messages and researching the origins behind Autism logos.
First, I am not a fan of the linking puzzle pieces because of the origins and it is too often used and could imply certain negative things to those on the spectrum. It is cute looking, but too widely used.
The infinity symbol I am not totally against. It is a very simple design, and perhaps many have less harsh feelings towards it too, but I just think Brent should consider something different, too, and not necessarily follow that safer choice either. The colorful cog wheel I liked better.
Momo, gets an A+ for effort and kindness in trying to help out the forum and with all her attempts at revisions, with her great skills. Again, the gear/cog was very fine to me. So, that could be considered as part of a logo. The scribbles though keep reminding me of ADHD or scattered and disorganized thinking. The colors are pretty decent, but a bit artsy.
I just think those with Autism and Aspergers tend to have a more structured, organized and precise side, yet if scribbles are present and colors or patterns are harder to recognize for the letters, it may seem a bit confusing or misleading to some. Those with Autism can be creative and be wired differently, but that part of the logo seems better used elsewhere.
Assuming Brent is going to still have a diverse and inclusive group in the renamed group, I am fine with some logo with different colors, and even that round colorful circle in Aspies Central was fine. Maybe consider putting a globe inside that colorful logo, or two or more different hands inside near each other to represent diversity, love or care. In other words, you could also use the current logo but maybe add some new to it.
I personally believe in simplicity, and its great to use different colors, to represent the uniqueness along the Spectrum, and maybe consider showing some human element regarding the logo, too. For instance, our book cover designer, without our knowledge, used eight colorful hands in a circle on the back cover, but we did not prefer the one hand there that included the puzzle pieces.
Or regarding any use of a hand or hands in any logo, one could instead have a hand sign language symbol(s) too, to represent the theme of the logo. The point of writing this post is to show that there can be different variations of the current Autism logo ideas used or considered. Whether the cog is used and/or any other symbolic item considered by others before, or the current colorful circle and things added to that, the new logo can be special and mark the start to this forum with new name.
Whatever Brent decides, or to come up with any new idea on his own, it may just take time getting used to, regardless what the logo is. That is natural. One suggestion though is to have an Autism motto too that is positive, near the logo. Then those members and those who visit the site will focus more on the mission of the forum or the great trait(s) of those on the spectrum.

Now you're just enjoying this... Picking on on me! Ah! All my hard work...Are you sure it's not "By "?
When I see that rainbow infinity symbol the first thing I think is "gay Metis." I suppose that's my Canadian side showing.
I think the logo with the light scribbles reads quite well, despite being very busy. Colour contrast is key, and you pulled it off. I also like the globe logo. When you put a cog around the world, however, it evokes some rather totalitarian associations which are probably best avoided.
