New Research Suggests Parents Can 'Move' Their Children Off Autism

Having learned more about ABA, I think there should be a minimum age. Children should be old enough to understand the purpose of the therapy, which should be to enable them to choose to integrate/pass as normal when it suits their goals/purposes, and not to force them to conform or to brainwash them into being "normal" (which I don't believe will work anyway).

Society seems devoted to have us fit in the standard round holes they create. They so fear that which they don't understand.

I am definitely not a standard round peg... and don't believe for a second that you are going to fit this rhombicosidodecahedron into that little round hole.

(I love the autism spectrum ribbon.. we are all different but fit together well)

The NT's in my real, show me this sort of stuff all the time. When I reject it, they ask " but why wouldn't you want to get better". Seriously people, whose actually impaired here?

At the church I go to, I told one of the members I have autism and he said "You need to speak out against it." and after that, I shut down. I think some NT's don't comprehend us that much, do they?

Most people are ignorant about it, and many of those who are ignorant about it are on the spectrum and don't yet know it, so it isn't really just the NT's.

You can't blame people for not knowing about something that isn't reliably and accurately taught in school or anywhere else. Expecting people to be informed on every subject is a pipe dream, albeit a nice one. Most don't know anything about schizophrenia either, for example. Those who have heard things about ASD are as likely to have heard misinformation about it, such as the guy who thought it was something to speak out against.

My advice? Unless you are prepared to spend at least an hour educating him/her, don't tell a person about your autism. It's only practical. You can hope that somehow the people you know will have been well informed, but most of the time you will find such hopes shattered. Of course, if you know the person is educated already, then that is different.
