Newbie….member and diagnosis :)

yes I very much think it’s hereditary and it’s good to see it in those family members. Do they know they are or in denial? One of my uncles omg the denial is cringe as it’s just so blatantly obvious

I've learned enough not to bring it up with either of them. My guess is that they don't have a clue. But then neither did I. I actually stumbled onto my own autism quite by accident. Though it did involve some serious self-denial at first.

Caught a show on the Natl Geo channel years ago about people with some strange obsessions. Learned about this thing called Aspergers Syndrome though I wasn't even looking for it at the time.

Amazing!! Obsession is a wonderful thing in our world

I came across mine by seeing it in my dad once I left home! It’s like I finally saw him in reality once leaving the nest, after that I researched he ticked every box. Pretty much self diagnosed myself years later realising certain struggles and a lot of inappropriate behaviour and here I am today lol

Not so much in my world, which also involves comorbid Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Autism ends whenever I'm alone and close my front door. My OCD follows me wherever I go, 24/7.

ahh I’m sorry to hear this, I guess there are different extremities with it, I wish I had ocd to motivate me to clean my house more!

have you sought help with yours, if so had it helped any?

Simply put, CBT didn't work for me. Diagnosed with chronic clinical depression, social anxiety and OCD many years ago. As for autism, well it was still too early to have expected that to happen professionally speaking.

Yeah there are a few positive aspects of OCD, that much is true. My employers loved it, though I never told them I was diagnosed as such. ;)

I present the High Council of the Emerald Planet official greeting.

Welcome!

Yes, its mostly genetic. I think older people are more like to refuse it since it was seen like a critical illness some years ago. Nearly an insult.

Glad to have you here.

Oooh I will look into this thank you for the advice, school hasn’t picked it up yet as such but they have made certain adjustments for him ‘moving him closer to the front’ he gets taken out for certain emotional development classes but he hates he’s an outkast so I’m thinking of making an appt to see his teacher especially now I have been diagnosed as I know a lot is to do with the lack of funding so they don’t like to mention it

ahhh I’m sorry you struggled, when did you get your diagnosis?

You do what you need to do when it is your kids, my youngest had a learning disability, cleared up when he hit puberty. put together a path for him to follow I was very successful got his secondary school and college diploma's . I could not have done this for him if it was not for my being on the spectrum. He is getting married once Covid is over to an highly educated women.
