Nomadic Lifestyle

I like travelling, and when I was younger I used to enjoy visisting new places and wandering around. As I've got older I've found that it's become harder to do - I get tired faster, and some sensory issues are worse.

There are a lot of people on sites like Couchsurfers who have adopted that kind of lifestyle, for a while at least. It's good for students or people on a budget who want to see more of the world, but some do it not because they are lacking in financial resourses but also because they enjoy the experience. Couchsurfing may not appeal to all people on the spectrum because of the social aspect, but it might appeal to those interested in cultures, languages, etc. Some couchsurfers can be quite eccentric, and interesting people, if you like that kind of thing.
Couch surfing is something I definitely could not do due to sensory issues. I need someplace I can call my own, be it tent or RV - some semblance of personal space. If I visit a friend in another state and have to fly, I usually stay in a cheap motel.

I did it for four years, no home, no address, no car, just me a backpack and a bedroll. I worked the carnival one summer, hitched with truck drivers another, toured with two different bands, learned to drive a semi and, that got me to owning a home and settling in - sort of. I still travel a lot but, I do have a home and an address now.

I loved it. Sure I hit some hard times, especially in December and January, down time for carnivals, bands and most anything that would feed and house me but, I made it. I learned a lot about life and, more about what I really am capable of and, who I am. I wouldn't do it again at my age but, I don't regret a moment of those four years.
