Not everyone can afford a pool table

I don't want to cause offence. But I don't know sometimes in a bar, when going to the restroom, to take my bag or not. Potentially someone could steal it and the bar may not have cctv. But then it may cause unescarrily offence I guess to take my bag.

Take your bag with you, I would say. If you don't have friends there with you and they can watch it. Leaving something alone in a bar is a great way to lose it.

Well, what about going to a pool hall? Where I am, you can play snooker too, or American or British pool.

The rules are a bit different, but not by a lot. Like if you get "two shots" for a foul, you can have ball in hand from behind the line and have two shots, with a free nominated ball acceptable only on the first strike. Otherwise, you usually get to have only one shot, but with the advantage to lay the ball anywhere on the table.

Back in the early 80s I was on the dole for a while and I used to play 8 Ball for beer. I used to go to the pub with just $1 in my pocket. It cost 20 cents to play a game and 72 cents for a pint of beer, I wouldn’t buy a beer, just put 20 cents on the challenge table. When it was my turn to play I always asked “Play for a beer?”. I still had 80 cents in my pocket to buy that beer if I lost.

Sometimes I lost the first game and left the pub without a drink but I only had to win that first game to break even. Sometimes I’d end up fairly smashed before they could get me off the table. Good value for $1.

I was in a pub and some pathetic guys were trying repeatedly to look over at me and talk about me and laugh. I have a clear conscience, I wasn't bothering anyone in the bar. They are so tough in a cowardly group but when I asked what it was there rudeness and stupidity were exposed

I have been at my first ever live professional snooker tournament as a viewer. I really enjoyed it except from overhearing two other audience members call me mr bean. Anyone who calls me that are cowardly. Being called that is hurtful and makes me angry. Anyway I met two snooker players and got my photo taken with them. I am going back for the evening session.

I was in a pub last night. A guy went home and left another guy at the pool table, I asked him if he would like a game, I was surprised that he said I was trying to work you out

I used to play in the professional 9-ball league in the UK, as an amateur. For several years, the 9-ball world championships were held here and I had sufficient ranking to get access to the qualifiers. I got trounced every time and never made it to the later televised stages as a player, but I'd always go and watch the matches.

The pool hall in my home town was a bit crap so I used to travel to the city to practice at a larger hall, which is also where they ran the qualifiers. The tables were good quality. While I was practicing I was frequently approached by locals who wanted to play for money - they could see I wasn't particularly good and fancied their chances. I politely declined.

On the other hand, if I ever played in a pub I was plenty good enough to win against casual players.

In a pub, my experience is that it's polite to give up the table if you've been playing a while and someone else wants to play. So if it's winner stays on, and you're always winning, you'd voluntarily stand down after a while.

I always take my bag to the restroom - I don't think anyone should take offence at that.
