I was thinking the same thing. Now if a person still using XP or older that connected to the internet, then I would be more concerned. It's an application- not an operating system. If it still works just fine and meets your needs, why worry about future upgrades and support?
And then there are freeware alternatives these days...

That's alarming to me. I use Office 2007. I guess it means they will no longer update it? I hope I don't have to get used to something new!My relationship with technology isn't good, as I'm always behind. Shoot, I'm still using a flip-phone and that's an upgrade from what I did have.
With that said, I just learned that Office 2007 is being retired at the end of 2017 and will no longer be supported by Microsoft. However, I can purchase the new version, called 365 or something like that, for the nominal price of $149; the option to rent it monthly is also available. How much money does Bill Gates need?
Anyway, has anyone else heard anything about this? If you use Office 2007, will you upgrade or switch to another system?

If your talking about this as shown in the below video, I don't think an average user would want to create an Word document that way.I suggest changing to LaTeX.
its free, easier and more beautiful than ms-Word. o--o
An average user can use a "model". Few people writes the document from zero as it's done in this video. If your talking about this as shown in the below video, I don't think an average user would want to create an Word document that way.
It always worth to share suggestions. You was sharing another suggestion just like others did for this post which is the whole point of a forum.Ok, lets ignore my suggestion.
Thank you! That's a relief! However, basic Word, Excel, PowerPoint files from newer versions of Office should still open in Office 2007. The only time you run into an issue if someone used a new feature of a later version of Office that no compatible for Office 2007. It may be very unlikely you would encounter this issues with someone but it could happen.
It would be cheaper to buy office 2013 for around $150 CAD that you can own. If you think about it after two years, you spent $240. Owning Office 2013, you would saved your self $70 after two year.Yeah anyway, I finally upgraded from 2007 to 2016 last week, and yeah I have to pay $10/month (CAD) but the number of bugs that have been fixed (that I notice) and the performance (that I notice) is worth it for me.
Plus, you can install it on up to 5 machines or something.

Right. I missed the point able to install it on 5 machines. So in your case it would make more sense paying $10/month.Yes, however 2013 may be good for you, or 2016.
For me, I have 3 machines, so 2016 wins easily. With 2013 I would have to buy 3 licenses separately. With 2016 I just install it on all 3.
So in other words, normal people will benefit from buying 2013, but the geeks won't.
