Yup there plenty including online ones. It seems many people these days is using Google Docs to create their documents.There are plenty of other apps to accomplish basic word processing.

I've used Open Office for years and also recommend it. Here's a link to the Open Office site if you want to try it out.I just use Open Office. Looks like Microsoft Office only it's free.

I use another free program, Thunderbird (from Mozilla, the Firefox people), for mail and calendar. Here's a link to their site.
Something for some of us to ponder, anyways. Whether or not we truly need such software.
I would test open source software to find what meet your needs so you don't need to depend on paid software.As it is, I'm more concerned about losing Outlook and Word. My dissertation is in Word, as is all of my other important writings. I write quite a bit. If I could somehow get those two without all the other stuff, I would be quite happy.
The only things I use are Outlook for my e-mail and Word. I've never really learned how to use Excel and I managed to make a Power Point presentation a few years ago. However, I was the only one to view it, so it was a waste of time.

I haven't had any problems importing documents from Word into the Open Office Writer, except when a new version of Word changes the format, it takes a while before Open Office Writer can read it. Very horrible OS. Remember it well.It came with an eMachine that was running Windows ME. Anyone remember that?
