Olympics

Wild to think we have such facilities right in the middle of Reno on a hotel external wall.

This one? That is wild.
What a weird gimmick for a hotel.

Watching the marathon. Has there ever been such a steep grade for those poor folks to climb having run so far ? Looks downright painful.

*Funny to hear later how the winner of this event appreciated the climb. Go figure. o_O

I think I'm going to have to cast my vote for Sifan Hassan for top performance in this Olympics.

2020
Bronze 1500m
Gold 5000m (5k)
Gold 10000m (10k)

2024
Bronze 5000m (5k)
Bronze 10000m (10k)
Gold 42195m (marathon)

In today's era, where athletes are stronger and faster than ever before (better coaching, conditioning, diets, etc.), the amount of specialization is much more than it is in the past, but yet she set today a new Olympic record in the marathon, in the same week where she contested and had podium finishes in the 5k and 10k on the world stage.

Running a 5k and 10k together is something that happens a fair bit as the two distances share similar training regimes, but to do so with the marathon and be competitive on the world stage is phenomenal, and not something I'm sure we'll see again.

It is both fascinating and incredible to see some true athletes there who are able to compete both physically and strategically in those long distance races. With an ability to pace themselves, yet maintain some kind of boost at the very end, when their competitors have clearly "run all out of steam".

Reminding me not of a few, but rather several of them. Very cool.

It almost reminds me of so many people at car races with their stopwatches and computers, calculating speed versus endurance and fuel consumption with machines. But for a person to be able to do something similar regarding their own bodies....amazing!

Heck yeah to breakdancing. Why not? It's fun, super creative and rather amazing.

As for breakdancing and me being Australian, it was horrible for Raygun to go out and make a total fool out of herself. The worst I ever seen in any Olympic Games, I have no respect for her, 36 years old and this felt like that she didn't act her age despite that she wasn't even on the autism spectrum.

She deserves to be trolled for that childish behaviour and all the 14 year old competitors in the Breakdancing acting mature.

There were folk devils who didn't want the breakdancing in the Olympics in the first place had watched Raygun make an idiot out of herself and this gave more reasons why to frown down upon breakdancing. No wonder why this will never be an Olympic event because any Raygun wanabes who come for the 2028 Los Angelas games will do something stupid like the Chicken dance, the YMCA, the Time Warp, the Gangman Style or the Macarena.
