1. Your Nonsense Detector Is Finely Tuned.

You’ve spent so much time with creatures who can’t lie that human deception feels like a slap in the face. While others might dance around with fake smiles and empty promises, you’ve grown accustomed to the refreshing honesty of an animal’s immediate reactions. They either like you or they don’t—no passive-aggressive texts or complicated social media mind games required.

I generally find human behavior confusing. As much as I miss a LOT of communication nuances and can, at times, be the fool of deceptive behaviors, I would agree that, on another level, my "nonsense detector" and "intelligence detector" is finely tuned. I appreciate the honesty of small children and animals.

Almost all lies that people tell are obvious. They only work because the one who believes them wants to believe them, for some reason (such as "I am afraid of the alternative, so I'll believe that what you say is true.")

But I am pretty sure that the statement that " people who have a highly developed b.s. detector" is confusing correlation with causation.

I generally find human behavior confusing. Another cool thing is that their capacity for deception is considerably low, too. With most humans (especially those we don't trust 100%) there's always a "what if?", or a reason to be a little guarded based on past experiences. But both of those groups will pretty much tell you to your face whether they like you or not, which means you don't always have to be looking for "hidden social cues". Plus, it's hard to be offended by someone with such a small world view. And likewise, it's extremely easy to forgive them.

Sometimes I wonder if humans are evolving to become even more subtle in their social expressions, or maybe even more deceptive in that way, possibly as a means of 'blending in' or 'masking' them in a socially-appropriate fashion. I might've made this up, but I feel like subtle aggression and passive hatred are just becoming the norm.
