1. When I was barely grown (18 or 19), he and I went shopping together without Mama along. He made comments to the employees in which it sounded as though I were his wife rather than his daughter.
2. Mama got upset once at the store where we all worked because some guy that worked there was surprised that she was his wife and thought that I was his wife instead.
3. Sometimes he has referred to Mama and I collectively as his wives during prayers at home and had to be corrected.
4. I don't like the way he looks at me at times and so I have gotten for several years now to where I hide in my room to do things like brushing my hair.
5. I already mentioned the way he imitates things about fictional character crushes of mine at times.
6. Grabbing my thigh one day and saying that it was my fault for not paying attention to my surroundings.

Years later, as an adult, I was finally evaluated and the psychiatrist thinks that I have ASD. Since then some people treat me like I can't read or write.

I've never had a formal evaluation, so I haven't experienced this specific kind of prejudice. However, ableism takes on many forms and I had my share for not hearing. It annoys me a lot when I go somewhere with someone else and the staff talk to the person I'm with, not with me, about things that concern me or what I want. Because they find it easier to talk to this other person with better hearing. Aha, also I don't understand or ask to repeat, because I'm stupid, not because I didn't hear, according to some people.
