$3000 for a 4 day trip, Sydney to Perth.

That's the worst thing I have heard in a while. 😮 I'm expecting a private butler that serves me three-course dinners and champagne at that price. I think I could buy a running car for $2000 and just drive myself. :)

With the price of fuel these days you'd be lucky to break even but you'd have a much more enjoyable trip. Sydney to Perth by road is 4500 Km.

I'm guessing 4500 km is a short trip in Australia? :) I saw some guys on an Australian tv-show, they stopped at a bar and asked for directions. And the bartender said "it's just down the road". It was a 250 kilometer trip. 😆

The longest road trip I ever did was from Melbourne to Darwin, 4000 Km. I did it in 3 days.

I recently read a story about a mechanic just south of Darwin that got annoyed with a customer demanding that he fix the airconditioning, for which he didn't have the right equipment. He told the customer to go to an airconditioning specialist just down the road a bit. "Just turn left at the next traffic lights.". The next traffic lights were in Alice Springs, 1600 Km away. :D

We do have one thing here that is very long. The country is just 1700 kilometers long but our coastline is a staggering 103 000 kilometers. The second longest in the world, after Canada. It's the fjords, they add some kilometers here and there. I googled Australia now, it says you guys have a 35 800 kilometer coastline. So we win the coastline competition! :) And that's a little weird really. We are planning to add a few fjords, to beat Canada. ;) Just have to do some digging.

Your country looks a lot greener than much of mine too, although I'm guessing those images in Google satellite view were taken in summer. Driving through Australia's red centre isn't really a lot of fun, some of it's stunningly beautiful but you look forward to leaving again.

Yeah it's green and pretty I think. For a while. But then suddenly it isn't. 🫤

This is an example of the sort of fake news that's out there and it shows just how much you can trust news stories posted on social media. Someone has made a half hour documentary on the Voyager One spacecraft turning back to earth after making an amazing discovery.

Guess what, people. The voyager probes have no propulsion systems. They can't turn back, they're on a one way trip.

Truth is more expensive to produce, and less in demand. Fortunately, one can filter out a lot of BS just from the blatantly photoshopped title thumbnail.

There's so much crap on youtube now. And there are so many videoes where the thumbnail you see before you click on it, has nothing to do with the video. It's just people trying to make money. And I think it's getting worse because of AI, people use that to make all sorts of things.

There was a year in my teens where "Winona's Big Brown Beaver" and "Peaches" were competing for airtime on the radio. They were essentially the same exact song, except one had slap bass. And then, for variety, that same year, we had "The Three Little Pigs", and "Thunder Kiss 65". The early nineties were peak redneck grunge.
