Riddles

My mother and I both thought of a recipe independently, but we rejected it because it's the ingredients that get mixed up, not the recipe.
True, if you think of it that way, but in the recipe instructions it can mention the words mix by hand, mix in a blender, mix in a large bowl, or even just "mix" it could just say, etc. The point is recipes involve often mixing, in its instructions, which leads to mixing items.

Sod it, this one should be quick n' easy...

One of me's great for growing your food in.
One of me's part of the reality you live in.
Another's a place you had a battle.
One's cold as ice to make your teeth rattle.
One of me's used to play your sports.
And another's involved in your very thoughts.
Ground/grounded?

A friend gave me a load of cooking ingredients but no recipe.

I thought, “I don’t know what to make of this.”

I think of it the way you said it: "But this mixes me up too".
Riddles though are meant to be not taken always literally. It is often a play on words being used. Otherwise, riddles sometimes may not be seen as riddles but just question and answers which is not my intent. I explained how the words mixed up can be seen in different ways.

The parts of a riddle I do are not always straightforward thus,. There can be more than one meaning for the words I use and how I present such , or it can be cryptic or try to lead one elsewhere, like when there is a double meaning involved that just needs to be figured out.

"Riddles though are meant to be not taken always literally."
This is maybe true in the normal world, but depending on how we individually approach solving problems, the very fine details and nuance can make a big difference.

I have no option but to take everything extremely literally, it's simply how my mind works. It's a ruddy pain at times, but it's not like I have a spare brain to use instead. You too have your mode of thinking. Neither of us is right or wrong, that's not how I see things working here. Better to let the one's that don't work for us just go and wait for a better one. I could probably criticise every riddle here, but only from my own P.O.V. and what would be the fun of that anyway? It's a game.

We all make 'mistakes' understanding each others riddles because we often work in very different ways, and what matters to one may not matter at all to another. Sometimes the tiniest clue the writer never thought about, may solve it for another.

And for the sake of polyfinality:
An agricultural field
One of the fundamental fields.
A battle field
An ice field
A sports field
An electromagnetic field

When you are down, I’m up high.
Each of us head toward the sky.
Believe me you’re safer if I am around.
If we’re not connected we both hit the ground.

@Boogs, I thought your last clue might be related to a field of study.
Excellent idea! I never thought of that one! But sadly no, I am truly and disgustingly literal AF! I can't help it, honest! 😖

...then there's field of vision, and there's <wanders off mumbling to himself...>

When you are down, I’m up high.
Each of us head toward the sky.
Believe me you’re safer if I am around.
If we’re not connected we both hit the ground.
Sounds like a safety line, rock climbing etc. (I being too literal again?)

None correct so far.
When we’re together, often neither of us can see the sky.
