Salutations

Thank you all for the warm welcome, I've really been enjoying the conversations here

Hey,

I'm Andrew from Sydney Australia and I recently found out that I'm an aspie.

I've wondered why people labelled me weird for decades.

I'm 50 but look a lot younger and act even younger than that.

Now I know why I'm not "normal" I find that I am able to be a lot more relaxed and comfortable in my own skin.

I still freak out with some people though.

It's funny that I am now an IT Project Manager dealing with people all the time and loving it.

I think forcing myself to get out there and learn how to mix with people has really paid off for me.

Life is much much more enjoyable now than ever before.

My great wife and partner has had a lot to do with that too.

I am working through getting too attached to people I am attracted to (men or women - not like that; just in a plutonic way).

I scare people off when I let my guard down.

Trying hard to not scare anyone off now.

Really enjoying that so many people are open and honest and caring for each other and for too me here n this blind community.

This site/forum is a god send to me.

Thank you all for being so nice and friendly to me.

Peace.

Welcome to both of you :) Good luck you will find your help and companionship needed in this forum. Much love from Nacho

I love the aurora borealis, I've always wanted to travel and I want to see it IRL

I would love to see the aurora borealis also. Here in Idaho, our skies have looked a lot like Rocco's wonderful paintings. But it was not the aurora borealis. It was the forest on fire.

Welcome Andrew,
I can't agree with you more, I have friends I can talk about AS with, even one that has AS, but I don't want to bore them bringing it up all the time. Also some of the advice here is top-notch; I just received some on another thread of mine referring to my sister this morning.

Uhmmm…idk how to do that at the moment…it should be in specific discussions- friends, family and social skills- I'm starting to think my sister has AS

For the record, I don't necessarily take pride in having AS, but I'm not ashamed either, I'd go with saying I'm chaotically neutral on the subject; however that might be up for change……

Welcome to this site.

I'm not sure if any of us are proud to be on the ADS spectrum. Some members of this forum are still working at coming to terms with their condition. Others like me have accepted it and knowing what our symptoms are, we're better able to work around them.

I do take pride in my work related accomplishments which I suppose may be due to my autism because I tend to be very project oriented. As for the autism itself, it is what it is. (Shoulder shrug)

I find this site interesting because I am fascinated by how other people have approached their conditions. One of the forum boards that I have been shadowing (but not posting in) has been about relationships. I am fascinated by the idea of an extroverted aspie because that really does sound like a contradiction. I am also curious as to how successful others have been in forming relationships because I have not been successful at all given the vast potential for misunderstandings when interacting with an NT.

I have also found this site to be quite welcoming and truly appreciate the lack of criticism that I have encountered at other sites for some of the life choices I have made.
