Seeking help in PA - from out of state....

Good evening - I am new to the group, I am not sure where to begin. I am researching services in PA for children with autism. I may be getting married in about a year and my wife would be moving to Pa from out of state (Az) to Pa. Her son is 10 yrs old and autistic. I thought maybe a support group or message board could be a good place to start.I need to research thing such as social security, aid, medicaid and what agency handles services in PA, what would need to be done to qualify/move from out of state, what is the lag time between states, what is needed (Doctor's note, etc?), families to speak with who participate, etc. I know in Az, he gets RESPIT and Habilitate, in addition to various forms of therapy.

If you know of anywhere I could begin my search, that would be so great! Thanks all!

Thank you!

Welcome here! :) You’ll need to contact the Department of Developmental Services in PA, to apply for intake. They can help guide you. Agencies like The Arc are fantastic to source out. Also, see if there is an “autism collaborative” and
“special education parent advisory group” in the school district he will be attending.

Best of luck!

'Ello~, welcome to the site. Not native to the states, so can't help ya' there, though 'pparently Warmheart's got an idea. Dunno if there're that many professionals in the fields you need to answer your questions on the site, though I'm sure you can find people who've gone through similar things and may give you other perspectives and experiences, that kinda' stuff. Anyways, hope your new family turns out fine~!
