Sherlock Holmes

That book scared the hell out of me as a kid. I read it not long after an incident involving a pit bull and multiple bite wounds on my legs- I think it cemented my fear of dogs. Great book, though. Beautifully written...

Oh gosh! I can see why you're afraid of dogs now! I was terrified of them when I was a child. It took many years and the love and patience of a very gentle mutt to help me get over it. I still instinctively get afraid around dogs I don't know though. And The Hound of the Baskervilles is a very good book. It is my favorite out of the four novels, but I made the mistake of reading it first when I was a little kid. I didn't connect to it as much because I was *very* young. Like..five or six. And Holmes is barely in it. But I reread it in its proper order as an adult and LOVE it now!

My friend and I watched the BBC series last year, as well as the latest episodes after they aired a few months back. I've just started reading the short stories and novels and am currently on "A Scandal in Bohemia". Really enjoying them so far.

What's fascinating to me is discovering the influence behind the BBC episodes and how the literary stories were updated for modern audiences. I plan to get caught up on the film and TV versions after finishing the books.

The TV show with Lucy Lu as the Watson character is very well done! I can see how Sherlock has the addict issues in his past, but he seems to have control of his Monsters, they are always going to show themselves at the end of the "book..." But that doesn't mean you need to be afraid of them...even some Monsters are Super.

As a side note I had lunch in 'Speedy's Cafe' the other day. It is a real cafe, although not in Baker St.

If you wanna see a HUGE influence on the BBC Sherlock series, I BEG you to watch the movie "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes" First of all, it's an amazing movie. It stars Robert Stephens and Colin Blakely as Holmes and Watson, and it's absolutely lovely. They are both wonderful actors and they take to their roles magnificently.

Second of all, Mark Gatiss (One of the co-creators of the BBC show, and who plays Mycroft) says that that movie is one of the biggest influences of that series, ESPECIALLY Mycroft's character. Christopher Lee plays him in the movie, and it's obvious where Mark Gatiss gets his influence from. (They get a lot of influence of Sherlock and John's relationship from this movie as well) So I implore you and everyone who loves Sherlock Holmes to watch this movie. It has mystery, intrigue, mysterious Russians, Mycroft being slightly evil and the Loch Ness Monster. What's not to love?!
