Should I be offended that someone called me a robot? How do I be less robotic?

Many of us have an emotional disconnect with the NTs. For me, it isn't that I don't experience emotions, but they seem to come in a different sequence than NTs. They are usually delayed or forestalled when I need to be objective, but many NTs require an impulsive/knee-jerk reaction right away. I have found that my impulsive/knee-jerk reactions often turn out to be inappropriate, so I normally rein them in. I still feel those emotions after the dust has settled, though.

(I heard that police are trained to respond the same way during a crisis.)

I sometimes come off as cold and calculating at first but when people get over my weirdness i am soft warmhearted and loving, i just get too technical at times. Am I a robot? If so consider me r2d2.

Thank you for all the responses! It was via typing, which I don't understand how you'd be able to tell. I guess he was just an internet idiot.

Reminds me of something that happened to me in another forum a few years back. Ironically it was someone who claimed to work in mental health...on a suicide prevention line. She commented on one of my posts saying, "Do you know how pompous you sound?" She never addressed the subject matter. Only in the way which I commented on it. Infuriating.

What, exactly, is the sound of pomposity? Is it like the sound of one hand clapping?

I always like to be concise, precise, and formal. I do NOT use slang because it is, in my view, symptomatic of a lazy, careless mind. I guess I'm pompous too. If so, it's something to be proud of :)

I get that quite a bit as well, likely why I've simplified over the years the manner in which I write. Have been called too 'wordy', pretentious, arrogant, cold, unemotional, on the net. Seems as if someone can't counter an argument, they critique your spelling, grammar or sling mud in straw man attacks and much of the time they don't even know what that is.

You guess? No, I think we've established that fact now.
Yes, I suppose we have.

Sorry to hear you get that too.

Oddly enough I like this thread...as it's exposed a common way we've all been disparaged by others.

Always good to know we're not alone on so many issues.

Looking at this post, was this person calling you a robot-like person, or mistaking you for the ubiquitous on-line variety...?

Seeming 'robotic' isn't always a bad thing. It can mean you're not controlled by your emotional reactions, have the ability to view a situation objectively and are more likely to respond in a sensible, logical way. If this applies to you I don't think you need to "fix" it - just keep being you! :)

I agree. I had not checked on this forum for a while but came on here, found this thread and found a satisfying commiseration.

I don't think this person was a troll, as the conversation was too long. There was a robot of the online variety and he said the actual robot was less robotic than me.

I thought trolls got off on baiting people.
That could be an extended process, depending
on the tolerance & stamina of the person getting
trolled.

I guess it depends on the troll. He seemed nice for a little bit. I don't know.

Frankly it strikes me more as a comment frustrated NTs are likely to make when they don't relate to someone on the spectrum. More a case of neurological intolerance than trolling.

It's been my experience that real trolls will use any subject matter they can to deliberately agitate people on a perpetual basis, until they are usually expelled. They do the same thing over and over...different issues to different victims. But always with the same malicious intent.

I think I may indeed appear to be somewhat "robotic" in that I may well be out of touch
with normal sensitivities to others in various ways. I do not seem to be real comfortable
while trying to make conversation with others, and I can not "fake that". I do not believe
I will ever really attain some kind of normal relationship, an enduring one, and one that
really resonates with me. Yes, I am a bit "robotic" I think.
