Voltaic

Darth Binks is real.
Amongst all the things that happened last night, i did have one good thing. i found a new ducumentryawbout ants on youtube. it was based around Colonies of woodland ants who started to coexsist insted of fighting eachother, creating a super colony consisting of millions of queens, kilometers big. better yet, it was done by the planet earth team, and narated by david attenborough. i cant lie and say i wasnt completely geeking out througought the whole thing.

i noticed a distinct lack of documentery threads on this forum. as i am always looking for something good to watch, maybe we can get togther some good documentries based around what we are interested in.

dump them documentries for old voltic.

They used to show that on AFRTS when I was stationed overseas, as well as this one:

I have World At War on DVD. Continue to rewatch so many episodes. Like eating candy.

My brother has "Victory At Sea". Geez, it's dirt cheap in comparison if you can find it. I'd get into so much trouble if my father knew I didn't have it in my collection! :p

But I do have the soundtrack. Does that count?

I don't know how to download Clips ( I need a very small step-by-step instructions to do it ) from YouTube ,if I did it would be sleeping cats ,die cutting machines ,'Haven'tv adaptation of the Stephen King novel the Colorado kid.
World at war is regularly broadcast on yesterday channel in the UK .
also super vet originally called bionic vet, Bondi vet .
documentaries on the Holocaust,judaism.

My favorite:

The World at War - Wikipedia

Simply brilliant.

old ww2 documentries? good taste.
I got my DVD set at Walmart in the $3.00 bin. I don't know how it ended up in the mix, but I scarfed it up. I also picked up a DVD set about the Vietnam War at Walmart for cheap:

i've tried to read instructions on the Internet but I just can't remember them and they're too complicated to understand! always says you have to download an app to do it and then the iPad says I have to have iOS 11 which I don't have and can't manage to do that either
thanks for asking

I remember watching an archaeology series on Channel 4 in the UK called 'time team 'they were in northern France and someone who was avidly interested in the British Army was telling them the gory fact, that someone had to go around (this was their job )pushing a long slim metal rod where there was very new grass growth in an area surrounded by old grass growth !pull it out and smell it !to see if there was a dead body there .

That's got to be a grim prospect in Europe whenever someone wants to move earth for construction purposes. So much land with so many bodies in certain areas where so much carnage took place.

I know when I lived on Guam as a child, the main concern was so much Japanese ordinance just laying out there in the jungle for the taking. Talk about an attractive nuisance for children!

The British war graves commission do an endless job of looking for missing soldiers, what appears to have happened is the british army volunteers used an area near where a battle had finished and buried all the bodies ,that was a new cemetery.
you see on the news in the UK at different times the war graves in different countries, row upon row of white crosses or a stone if you're from another faith with the symbol of your faith .
in Belgium they appear to have a team that just appears to deactivate old ordnance! sometimes one of the team members is killed but not very often.
in Laos people use old ordnance as decorations theres so much , it amazes me more people onto killed.

My favorite has to be "Alone In The Wilderness". I've watched it several times on PBS.

I've seen it. It is indeed excellent.

Good thread. I was planning on starting one on documentaries soon, you beat me to it :)

I love documentaries, especially ones about the brain, the human body, medical documentaries, health, techology and science. And space/astronomy. Here's a clip from a documentary I really enjoyed watching - Guy Martin's Our Guy in China, episode 3. Guy (a fellow Aspie) sets himself a challenge to break the record for cycling across the Gobi desert.

Ants are awesome

Favorite doc? was removed from Youtube (of course). Exposed the pharmaceutical industry for what it is in great detail. In absence of a video to paste will go with an oldie but a goodie.
...
... Out Foxed... which... uh... hmm
interesting... i've checked 5 versions of this... 2 have the audio removed. 1 cuts, stutters and freezes but continues run time frozen. Another is chopped down and heavily edited. None :l

to heck with youtube then :D

i liked the days when documentaries were actually neutral and informative
the national geographic stuff, jaques cousteau, ...

these days as soon as you watch one, you usually can tell what bias the makers are operating under and what 'message' they are trying to convey

rather than tell the story from every possible angle, they highlight that part of the story that supports the bias they started with s they can come to the conclusion that they wanted to from the beginning

the news is the same thing for that matter

same with David Attenborough it's always evolution. The BBC seem to be biased towards darwin nobody else gets a chance.

Ant documentaries are one of my favorites. Have you seen 'Lord of the Ants'? Its out there on Youtube, Dailymotion, etc.

I really struggle with the editing techniques-sound effects. Background dramatic music, flashing, etc. Techniques to try to make it sound as dramatic or energetic as possible. Sensationalism. It totally ruins documentaries for me. If something is interesting, it is interesting in its own right, it doesn't need dramatic music or flashing images to make it interesting.
