Getting back to the job thing. First, I'm sorry, we were all rooting for you to be successful at this new job.
Second, to the extent that you are being paid an hourly wage, which I assume was true here, you do need to perform to a minimum standard or the employer loses money on you. This is nothing to do with discriminating against a minority. It's simply dollars and cents.
A way around this might be to find work that is paid on a piecework basis, that is, you get a certain fee for every job completed regardless of time it takes for you to complete. Then the key would be to find something that you are better at than most others (such as, taking photographs). While piece rate workers often don't make much money, those that are fast at a specific task may actually come out ahead.
