Spider post

I was just wondering what you thought about spiders:
whether you are afraid of them
what are the most poisonous in your area
If you have a pet spider or would ever
And your random opinions about spiders
Anything spider related

My opinions are I am scared of spiders I do not like them crawling in my room or on the floor but I am not terrified. And I do not like killing them anymore.
The poisonous ones here are redbacks and white tails I think and I am scared of those because I do not like killing them anymore. And we have huge huntsmen here and if I saw one of those I would scream and I would die because they are disgusting and hairy and have a few funny stories of huntsmen
And like having a pet spider would be so scary, what if it escaped but good if you had to get away from someone maybe if you got brave enough you could throw it on their face or something.
And a good prank is to hide spiders all over the house like put them on your partners pillow or in the cookie jar like fake ones and see if you could give someone a good scare.
Do you think if you sleep spiders can crawl in your mouth and you can swallow them or they can like bite your face. Do you ever worry they will drop off the ceiling on your face?
Or if you died in your sleep they would eat you alive if no one found you for a few days?

I'm not scared of spiders at all, when I was a student and I had room mates, I was always the one to remove spiders when they turned up in the bath. If I find one, I gently remove it with a tissue and put it outside.
There's a kind of tarantula here that gives a nasty bite.
I have a fake spider, but it's too unrealistic to be effective.

The one creature that strikes fear in me is a spider.
Certain types more than others.
I tried to get the nerve to hold a pet tarantula once at a reptile exhibit once and when it was my turn, I couldn't do it.
Although, I have a nice specimen of a tarantula incased in acrylic with a glow in the dark background.

We still occasionally find the brown recluse here in Florida, but not often.
There are Black Widows here also.
And the Huntsman, yes.
One crawled into the garage one night when I opened the garage door.
Nope, not getting in there. I swept him out.
Another time one tried to follow me into the house from the pool area by sneaking
along beside my foot, thinking he was hidden by the edge of the long dress I had on.
Luckily, I saw him and again, noop. Out ya go!
They are nasty looking, and I don't want them in my house.

Oh, the idea of one getting on me while I sleep?
Yes, I think about that. Or falling off the ceiling? Yep.
So, Arachnophobia has affected my life definitely.

As a little kid, I was afraid of spiders, but now I love them.

We have Black Widows and Brown Widows The Brown is an invasive that seems to be displacing the Blacks in some urban areas but aren't quite as aggressive or as venomous. My Son-in-law was bitten by a widow a while back and was pretty miserable for a few days. Once in a great while, there will be a Recluse bite, but it is always from spiders brought out here in luggage or packed household goods.

My wife was a nurse, and she'd see people come in claiming they had a "spider bite," but it was just a small staph infection.

I’m arachnophobic. If there’s a spider in my car, I will literally pull over and use anything I can find to get the spider out of my car, because I’m so terrified of them that I can’t drive if there is one near me.

Same with taking showers.

Eww to that spider, they are kind of disgusting to look at.
I am more afraid of snakes though but I still do not overly love spiders.
Yes me too I literally do feel like screaming if I see a huntsmen.

Yes that is the worse and I cannot wash them down the drain because I think it is cruel that has happened to me before
And I still try to have the shower with the spider because I cannot wash it down and i try not to get it wet so it does not die.
I think the wise thing would be to remove it before but I get scared of that too.
So being naked with a spider is the shower is scary for both me and the spider.

It is scary. I don’t want to hurt them either but I also don’t want them to crawl on me.

I wish someone would invent a device that gets them out of the shower for us lol

Yes like a spider catcher. There are those in the world, you should look them up online. Some have a handle.
Or if there is a man in the house, you could get them to do it. My dad is an excellent spider catcher

Spiders are cute for me. I like small spiders in house and garden and also big spiders in garden, but I don't like big spiders in house.

I also really like tarantulas in zoo.

My favourite spiders are jumping-spiders, orb weavers, and pumpkin spiders. All others--wolf spiders, daddy long legs, tarantulas--I'm wary of.

I have a lot of admiration for the Hunstman spiders in the top of Australia, they're amazing animals. The don't use webs to catch prey, they just chase it down and kill it. They eat many things including frogs and lizards. In the video below one has caught a mouse.

Your hysterical! (extremely funny)

I was afraid of spiders when young but have grown much more fond of them over time. I live in the woods and let them live in the house (do not tell my wife - she thinks I remove them) as my first line of defense against other bugs coming in and other bugs are always trying to come in.

My favorite is the Carolina Wolf Spider which doesn't make a web but prowls around and hunts at night. If you leave them alone they don't bother you. I've has a few I have actually gotten to know as they hang out during the day where I can see them and can live up to 3 years. One, whom I named Henry (actually a Henrietta) lived next to the washing machine for the better part of a year.

They are big. Not quite Huntsman size, but close. Legs included they can be 2- 4 inches long, furry brown with darker stripe patterns on the back.

I have a zero-tolerance policy about any arachnids or insects entering my home.

When I once lived in Sacramento, I remember turning on the light in my bathroom, only to enter and find a black widow spider dangling from its web. I was not amused.

Outdoor growing up in Virginia I liked seeing the fireflies light up the summer nights. Can't say anyone appreciated all the Japanese Beetles though.

I actually like jumping spiders. They never bite and are cute, as spiders go. in our meadow we have lots of hunting spiders. At night I will shine a light low and close to the ground and you can see their eyes reflecting the light.
