Spider post

Yeah. Rather be bit by a redback/widow than a Sydney funnel web. We have spiders we call "funnel webs" here, but they are harmless. South and Central America have Brazilian wandering spiders, which are also nasty.

By "therapy" I meant using spider bites as therapy, as some cultures used bee stings as a form of therapy. Clean spider silk seems to be a good bandaging material if you can get enough of it.

To anybody here who is not offended by horror movies - look up the Spider Scene from Lucio Fulci's The Beyond. I can't link to it here for obvious reasons.

We have those in South Australia, the funnel webs are only on the east coast. They especially like getting between the corrugated iron and purlings on shed rooves. Very distinctive funnel shaped web and looks almost exactly like a Sydney Funnel Web spider. We just call them house spiders.

I love spiders!

They're one of my favorite insects, orb weave spiders make beautiful webs that I like looking at

Daddy long legs are goofy and cute

Jumping spiders are very cute, and they do that little jump that I really like.

Wolf spiders' eyes have eyes that shine when you shine a light on them

Spiders are pretty awsum

Grasshoppers terrify me, tho

yes I love spiders, my secondary totem (my first is great horned owl)

I liked your other pic too, before you deleted it. Mine is from the Northern Territory in Australia.

I'm the same as you there, I don't like touched up pictures.
hey, I don't feel so comfy out here in public, can we just talk without everyone hearing us? Would that be out of line?

I really don't know the protocol for starting private talks.

(Wolf spider, pic is not mine)

I caught one of these years ago hanging out close to my feet in my bedroom. I'd say it was about 2 inches long, bigger than what I'm used to seeing. Took me by surprise at first, then I realized it wasn't interested in me at all. Captured it with a glass cup and some paper and released it outside.

They're pretty cool spiders, same as the huntsman they actively hunt instead of making a web and waiting. Very active creatures. Probably not the exact same species but we get them here too. Shine an LED torch around the ground at night, their eyes light up like little white diamonds. They're everywhere.

I've always been afraid of spiders and I used to hate them (unless they were really tiny - there are tiny, shiny black ones here you sometimes can find in the house, which I love but they're so rare). Over the years I softened towards them a bit, and then more recently I fell in love with jumping spiders, which has totally altered my attitude. I don't know why I love them so much. I always liked crabs - I have lovely memories of finding little crabs in the rock pools around the shore near the house I grew up in, and I was probably the only kid in the 90s who counted Krabby as one of their favourite pokémon haha - so maybe jumping spiders remind me of crabs in some ways? Anyway, I think they're very cute and interesting animals. This has made me more interested in spiders in general, though I still find most of them super creepy and can feel the anxiety rising in me when looking at pictures and videos of tarantulas, etc. Anyway, I'm trying my best to be fully pro-spider.
