Stuff to do online

I don't spend a great deal of time online. Don't mistake that though, I spend most of my waking hours on the computer but I don't find a lot of entertainment online.

Online I check several different country's news sources every day and I come to have a look at what's going on in here. For a while I was watching a lot of youtube videos but that's starting to get a bit stale now and I'm losing interest in them.

Offline I play a lot of video games and read a lot of books.
 
Learn a new skill or join forums dedicated to that.
figure out Usenet.
make friends with people in the area
find off-line social gatherings
read JSTOR or PubMed, other scientific publications
write things down on a computer document or notebooks as you improve your mind instead of brainrotting
 
If I find myself online a lot, such as when sick or whatever... I prefer to learn things.

Watch youtube videos to get ideas for potential projects, or different ways of doing things I already do. Search forums for the same.

Watch youtube bass covers to see if anyone plays a song with the same fingering as I do... it's pretty rare, I'm self taught.

Read gear pages to see who played on what, and discussions of what instruments and patches were used (mainly applies to old synths). Prince played in tons of songs, but was pretty notorius for using aliases in album credits, to not detract from the main artist's spotlight.

Read about various musicians, actors, shows... and discover their works before they hit it big, and ways that so many of them are connected.

Read about the history of defunct businesses or infrastructure. Go on satellite view and try to find the beds of railways that no longer exist. One site called Historic Aerials, you can go back in time and see the imagery from decades ago, and how things developed or disappeared. Of course the quality wasn't as good back then. One place I was sure there were houses when I was a kid, but now the road stops. I could step back in time and see how the river slowly consumed the houses, and the foundations are still visible under the water.

Yeah, I've recently been listening to some "Audiobooks" on YouTube - which usually last a good number of hours.

The last one I've listened to, and which I've listened to in the past, is Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds - The Musical Drama.
It uses the music from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds, but uses it for an audiobook version which is closer to H. G. Wells' book while still doing some things differently to make it a 'fresh' experience.

It's five hours long, but it's a good listen if you've got time to kill:
