The Asperger's & Autism Community Café!

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the Asperger's & Autism Community Café! Come pop in and have a drink, grab a yummy chewy chocolate brownie or two (or 20!) or anything in the world you feel like eating and just have a nice light chat about anything.

I got this idea from the Beyond Blue forums which I used to be on quite often when I was struggling with depression. They had a thread which was a virtual online cafe, where you could order any food in the world (its just imaginary but its pretty fun) and sit and have a nice chat. I couldn't find any similar threads on here (maybe there are a couple, I just haven't come across it yet ), so decided to create one!

The Asperger's & Autism Community Café is imaginary and online - that is the very best thing about it. You can order anything to eat and drink, you can talk about anything that comes to mind (appropriate for younger teens of course) and the layout of the cafe is constantly changing. You can even change the layout of the cafe yourself! Just say what you'd like to add or get rid of or change and it will be instantly done! :) You can create a farm of animals outside, you could even make it a cat cuddle cafe!! Oh my gosh, the cafe could be RUN by animals!! (it doesn't even have to be realistic, remember!) Use your imagination and feel free to add or change anything you want.

Enjoy!

PS. At the moment, the cafe is empty and has no tables or chairs or anything. No people are in it (except for me :)) and only the occasional bug skitters across the floor. It is silent and bare. Anyone like to help give the cafe a makeover?

This might be comfortable, maybe with some areas with less bright lighting.

Great Mia! That is perfect, with our autistic sensory struggles in mind. Oooh, there are BOOKS! (I absolutely love reading) and those chairs are beautiful. Okay, I will add a few things now because I may not be on here too often in the near future- mental health reasons :grin:

I just cleaned up those bugs and sprayed bug spray all over the place, so that will take care of the bug issue. I gave the place a mop and its all good to go for the people. Lets add some technology, for people who are into that. Some computers, some ipads that we can use, x boxes, playstations. Ooops, its getting a bit cluttered in here, lets upgrade to a house instead. It will still be a cafe, just in a nice big old fashioned 1900s house. Cool! It will be like a games cafe (you know those cafes they have where there are board games and you can eat and play games?)

PS. I feel like a nice triple chocolate chip muffin. There's a whole batch in the cafe kitchen. Would anyone else like one? There are also brownies, every flavour possible, chopped up strawberries, more healthy choices like curries and salads. Anyone feel like anything to eat? Yum, those chocolate muffins are sooo good.

Ya might wanna buddy to me if you really want this to take off ;)

I'm actually the self-appointed Mayor of Aspieville and could get you hooked up with some prime real estate as a donation from any number of my numerous political affiliations.

Feel free to speak or write to any one of my dedicated staff for contact info.

Just say the word, and I'll make it happen ;)

Comfy sofas and comfy chairs! All those straight-backed things... We need cushions!
Know what? That corner under the stairs,
Lets fill it with bean-bags and big fluffy pillows. You can still reach that bookcase, and if we hang some beads... There.
I'll just be in here, relaxing, maybe reading some Sagan. Coffee! We have coffee!
Be right back! (Jumps up and skitters through the doorway, pokes his head back through and says) I like it here! Anyone play chess?

What about some background music playing in the shop? I would go for some good rock music but everyone has a different taste on what they like so that may or may not be good. Also it depends on this factor and that is if some people are sensitive to too much noise in a confined area and would like total quietness. Music would still be cool though!

Great idea Dillon, yes rock music would be great! Though that is true, some people would prefer quietness.

Okay, how about music that is only heard by the people who want to hear it!? So, for people who want to hear the music, they can hear it and change it with their mind but those who prefer the silence, they get their silence but people who want the music can still hear it! That sort of thing wouldn't happen in real life, but hey, this is an imaginary cafe, we can do what we want! How does that sound?

And I want to add a nice garden outside too, oh and with a good hammock so I can swing and read my book and maybe a farm with animals too.

What ever works not a problem In being creative! Just let it flow through!
The controlling the music with your mind, it sounds like a power one of the Marvel X-men characters have but forgot which one.

This was what I was thinking too - perhaps a separate room off to the side so it doesn't disturb other people. CDs too, of course.
I'm thinking something like this (Not my own photo, borrowed from internet):

Ooh yes! And don't forget the CD player! Maybe an art and design room, for those who are into art and design, eg. photography, painting, drawing, Graphic Design. People could do art in the room or just sit and admire the finished artworks displayed. Here is a nice pretty one: (Though it could do with more chairs and more room)

I’ll add locks to the doors during session hours and a security man for possible intrusion, plus care/support staff to be around when required.

don't want to come to the café if you're going to kill insects

I agree. I don't take life, any life, but I think she "cleaned them up" by moving them outside(unhurt), and then spraying insect repellant.

That's actually what the local library has, downstairs, in the
children's area. Including the beads. Plus murals on the walls
and steps....

Maybe I'm just a big kid, at heart.
But it's gotta be comfy!
From here, I can hear you all talking comfortably. It's soothing to hear your voices, and to know people that I care
about are here, even if I'm just relaxing.
It feels like a warm, happy home.
And they're always cooking something...
Is that... apple pie?
