the dark side of the aspie Force

I don't care how disturbing an argument is so long as it is cogent & well framed. I can't stand the sort of idiot who argues & contradicts because he thinks it makes him sound smart BUT who really doesn't HAVE an argumentative leg to stand on.

You are aware that having a view like this in regards to having arguments/debates is a rarity nowadays? Most people get way to emotionally involved

They have a defect in that they can't separate themselves from their opinions. So, if you disagree with their opinion or theory, it's like you're rejecting them personally. Being emotionally crippled is sad.

That used to be my belief for a while, but then I realized not everyone can actually help that they feel about it the way they do. For some people it's more of a natural thing... similar to when I tried to go to school as a social worker, I figured out that I lacked empathy and all to engage in the required social interaction, I just felt that it wasn't in my nature.

In general I don't want to put people down, but I've noticed that some people just blared out what was on their mind emotionally and didn't even attempt to get a rough outline why someone has opinion X on it, and that this, just as well is, just an opinion/view.

I agree, to me it seems NT have much more emotional attachment to opinions and beleifs, that prevents them from changing this opinion as often as us, or looking at things in a different way. It's really blind faith, emotions seem to be something that, if left unchecked, can absolutely cripple a person. Truthfully I am glad I am not this way.

Perhaps its just me, but blind faith always struck me as a form of madness. Believing something where there is a total lack of any evidence to support the belief. Sometimes, the belief itself defies all rational sense (some religions have a few such beliefs). Like with all illnesses, there's a spectrum (sound familiar?) reflecting degrees of severity, intensity & pervasiveness. One person might be mildly superstitious when it comes to one or 2 things. He knows he's being silly & has the objectivity to be able to laugh at his own silliness.

At the other end may be the religious fanatic who has to put his right foot down before his left when getting out of bed, can only part his hair one way & then must wear a certain kind of head covering, he can only wash, dress & eat accompanied by a series of complex rituals, prayers & oblations all in order to please some god or to keep the devil at bay...<----this guy is considered to be a very devout religious man whereas the guy who must wear a pie plate on his head & plastic bags on his feet, follow a bunch of rituals in order to keep the aliens at bay.<----this guy is a crazy person.

That is because believing Aliens read thoughts & can corrupt or harm people is considered irrational & delusional. Believing that the devil can do the same is an irrational belief held by many. As soon as many people believe something crazy, it is no longer crazy!

Having an emotional or consensus-based belief-system IMO I'd bet is a symptom of mental break-down in many people that goes undiagnosed because it is one that is socially acceptable.

King_Oni & Deno, I agree with you both that this emotional attachment to opinion can stymie any ability for that person to argue objectively & reconsider their own perspective in the light of new evidence. People often believe something NOT because it is true, but because it comforts, pleases or affirms something for them in some way. I too am glad to have been spared this scourge.

Indeed, what the majority believes is thought of as the Norm. No matter how illogical the belief may be. After all they hold the most members so they MUST be right about everything? no? :rolleyes2:

Probably best left for the Atheists of the community..
There are spiritual humanoids with wings like a bird that watch over us, and a humanoid with horns that is engulfed in flames that tries to destroy us. Yes.. This must be true. How clever the human race has proved to be. We may have developed particle accelerators but we still believe in the tooth fairy.

Thanks, Deno!

I'm an Atheist. I see the double standards all the time: it's okay for a person who believes in some religion to say to someone "May_______ (<---name of deity or holy guy here) be with you." Or "Pray for _______." But if, as an Atheist you express an atheistic thought, you're being confrontational, disrespectful, irreverent & even evil! From an Atheist's perspective, having someone say to you that "Angels are protecting me from the devil." is no different to having a person say "The CIA is protecting me from Aliens" <---this last guy is considered a schizo to be avoided, feared (by many) & pitied -or maybe dragged off by guys in a white truck, placed in a rubber room wearing a jacket with 8' wrap around sleeves & forcibly medicated!!!

I think that my Athiesm might be considered a 'dark side' aspect to some BUT it has nothing whatsoever to do with Asperger's. In mainstream society, a person of faith is considered to be good so a person who is godless & faithless is considered to be bad (more like evil & malevolent).

In vampire wars you do attack people, its part of the game, but when you spend alot of time on these games, you have more time to attack and so they may think oh you are ruthless. I had a similar problem in this war strategy game I play. I was doing very well, I spent my time building and never attacked any active players until I was built up so high no one could take me. I started attacking people when they made a change to the way the game was scored, and but I did it so relentlessly, people said I was a bully. When you have more time and more focus on it, you have an advantage, but you are just playing a game the way it is supposed to be played. The people in my league backed me up to other people. I hadn't been so lucky on other servers. I couldn't get into that account for awhile, so when I was finally able to, I was doing alot of catch up. I particpated in a group attack on non player characters and someone was kind of mean because I didn't do so well. We had still won, but my score was really low, one of my league mates spoke up on my behalf and I found out later my league chief had been private messaging him telling him that even if I was behind in some ways that I was a much better player than he was, that I had was several levels on him, and that I would soon be running circles around him again. It was nice to see these people have my back, and they aren't even aspies like me. But they have seen the effort I have put into it, and even though they know I have social issues, they like what they know about me as a person, they will speak up for me when I can't.

I'm not an Atheist but I'm definitely not a Christian in the traditional sense. If I even began to explain...
So I just wear my mask and go along with it in person, especially in the South, but uh, no.

I'm a creepy ass person.

Who is "they"? Your Facebook friends or a bunch of random people online? Also, I'm not convinced that you being an aspie is the problem here. Did you provoke them first, or were you prosecuted for simply being yourself? Not to sound harsh but there's always two sides to the story.

Lmao. I love how you completely attacked the problem from other perspectives. I do that all the time... most people are somewhat offended by it though, it still puzzles me. It is a mere search for the solution to the problem.
