The Internet is disappearing...

YouTube has alot of problems, beyond it's copyright law flip floppery. And the companies that abuse it with impunity.

Creators and general users of the site, are both perpetually in the thier crosshairs for one thing or another. The blatant disregard when it comes to thier ads, malware specifically, is disgusting. Don't get me started on thier recent decisions with ads, making most of them unskipable.

Oh, and God forbid that you want to be an animator or a edgy humor youtuber on YouTube. You are public enemy number one, in thier book, for being either of those two things.

I could go on. But I will not. There are some dark crevices of YouTube, that just are not worth exploring.
Susan and Neal ruined YouTube

A good uptake on how Microsoft may be accelerating the process...inadvertently or not.

Isn't Cloudflare supposed to forward complaints on to a host of a website?

Are they able to spool their details, somehow?

The net has always had its fair share of issues since the early days of BBS, and what is now called the Internet. In the 80s we had networks we had to dial into, and only then were they restricted to landline connections. Now we can connect with systems via undersea and underground fiber optic cables, and satellite networks for civilian and mainly military use as well. The main issue of what is going on with the Internet is simply corporate greed, which is why media is becoming more and more harder to find.
The best way to outwit the corporate greed we now see on display, is to use their own loopholes against said companies. I hoard old media using specific key words within brave's search engine to see what content delivery networks are open and what data can be pulled from them. Internet Archive is the best place to scour for old media, and there is a subreddit just for looking for old media from Internet Archives CDN servers. It is called r/internetarchivemovies. Instagram or metas CDN servers are a joke when it comes to security if you can find the right site to pull the data from public accounts. (video data, images.)

Alright, im done going on about how evil coroporations are and why you should definetly "borrow" from them ;)

I'm actually kind of worried about the recent setbacks with the internet archive in relation to books, and I wonder how long it will take for their preservation of old websites to be rendered illegal due to copyrighted material. The idea that they're having trouble functioning as a normal library with borrowed books being matched 1:1 with the digital versions they lend out, it makes you wonder how libraries had even functioned in the first place.

Personally I don't really care too much about 'lost media' or 'lost webpages' like a lot of people do, but being interested in internet lore and internet mysteries in general, I think the erosion of the wayback machine will mark the end of internet and media preservation forever. Whenever that happens.

Corporations will always have the final say. Money talks, and we're going to lose a lot of human history soon

Same as it always has been in these last 10 thousand years. Cycles of losing massive amounts of archived human history, with critical knowledge being shelved away.

The internet feels a lot different to me today than it did even ten years ago. Everything feels more corporate and mainstream now on the internet.

To me, the Interwebz have become more socially polarized -- not only "Left" versus "Right", but "Trolls" versus "Snowflakes". Post something, anything, and people will either attack you for it or take offense from it. The rest of us are caught in the middle. We cannot be TOO honest, no matter what we post, or people will get upset.

The commercialisation is easy enough to filter out, and staying away from Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube help me keep my sanity.

How the heck is this guy the 'King of Content' when he just spews about his life sucking?

That's just somebody trying to seem cool on the Internet, because nobody cares otherwise.

I still think sex workers are just sneaks.

I think X is pointless, along with Facebook.

Even many forums today, yield little activity.

What about helpful forums like this. What will happen to them?
The internet is not disappearing, that's just a click bait title.

A lot of independent content is disappearing simply because they don't get enough hits to make their sites valuable to advertisers. A lot of genuine content creators aren't relying on their website as a source of income so they aren't as dependent on advertisers and are less likely to disappear soon.

I very much doubt that sites like this forum will disappear in the near future but that's largely dependent on people becoming paid up members. Web hosting is fairly cheap but there is still a cost involved, it doesn't cost a lot to become a member here, $10 for a lifetime membership, good value.

Yes I do think internet trends are really stupid on places like TikTok and YouTube. I've never been on TikTok and I have no interest in it. YouTube has become disappointing because of all this copyright laws and crap.
For me, youtube has been a tremendous source of insight/enlightenment.
Just one example: I discovered diabetes II was reversible.

For isolated ppl, especially during their younger years, the internet was a god-send.
Google, etc, was the big brother mentor I never had when I was a kid.
I could have been so much more enlightened had it been in existence when I was a child.
An opportunity lost bc it didn't exist at the time for me.

Oh, well...
Perhaps in my next life.

Yeah that's what I meant. I often forget that Google is only a part of the web lol.

It's why I don't do much research online for facts so often appear clueless when discussing political or scientific facts online. I think it's easier for more intellectual Aspies who know where to look and can focus on learning the right facts, but it's not that easy for me and most other people. No wonder so many adults online are clueless, it's because most of the internet are filled with toxic lies.
I think the biggest issues with the internet is a lack of critical thinking skills on the part of most folks using the interwebs. They don't have the capacity to critically distinguish between fact and fiction.

I've been on the web for decades, but I feel that a lot has changed in the last 20 years. I do prefer visiting YouTube now to going on forums, as the content is insightful.

Forums are rather quiet these days. I appreciate the few replies I receive, though. It's unfortunate that other sites I go on are not full of the nicest bunch.

I heard a new term for this today: Internet Brain Rot. This could actually be a thing these days.
