Thoughts on grocery stores? (I have a grocery store special interest)

I go to Meijer often, there are many around here. Between that, Family Fare, Dollar General, and Aldi, since Save A Lot mostly closed up. I try to avoid Walmart, but some things are exclusive to them. I’ve been going to Dollar General since before it got all popular. I prefer the smaller stores, but I have to go to the bigger stores for things plant based or low in sodium.
there is a save a lot a couple towns over from me and I have been curious (I like discount grocery stores) but alas I can't drive so I can only go where the bus goes.

I like aldi but I often won't go out of my way to go there. the vibes are just slightly off like an alien was given a very detailed description of what a grocery store was and decided to build one. I think it might be the size as the stores themselves tend to be smaller but the aisles and fridges and whatnot don't totally scale down with it. I like the prices though.

I also avoid walmart unless I need something I can't get anywhere else. the lighting is somehow more florescent there than other stores and their grocery aisles are too wide for my taste and their non grocery aisles are too thin for my taste and the inconsistency drives me up a wall. they have some products that I really like though so I will go sometimes.

I have not been to a dollar general in years but I used to go to get snacks there when I was at my previous transition program.

I just mailed our income tax returns and a check to the IRS at the local post office :( and then went next door to the Dollar General and bought a nice cauliflower and a couple of other things there. The little town I went to is basically a "food desert" so it makes me glad to see that Dollar General is trying to provide some fresh, unprocessed food options for shoppers. I know there are poor people in that town who don't own cars and have to rely on Dollar General for food.

To me, Aldi is basically Save a Lot. Bringing your own boxes or bags (but Aldi has their own bags now you can buy). “Renting” your cart for a quarter, Save a Lot used to do that, maybe some still do. The alien brands and choices (I like your description). But some of those things exclusive to them are great, depending on your taste.

Sadly, a lot of men use grocery stores as a pickup app in Florida, so l shop a lot online, and so appreciate it. Also like Misery, l do encounter very emotionally needy people with the IQ of a ant, so l get in and get out usually.

I share your fascination, @PastelPetals, although I have a limited window of time before being inside a grocery store starts to feel overwhelming.

I am looking for work right now and keep coming back to the idea of an overnight stocker. I think it would be wonderful to be in a large grocery store when the music is off, the lights are low, and the people are gone.

I enjoy the organization and neat aesthetic of some grocery stores.

I think this is a great picture.
