Trains

The prime mover(diesel engine) in those diesels is an EMD 567b. They have 567 cubic inches per cylinder. Each cylinder has more cubic inches than most any automobile engine. Could be build as a V6, V12, V16 or V20 monster. I personaly have been fixated on trains since I was a baby. Structure is part of it, but in a model railway form, it can become a little world that the Aspie/Autie can escape into where everything makes sense to him/her. I used it in that way and still do. When I am overwhelmed, going to one of my 2 train layouts and running trains for a little while can calm me down. Mike

Thanks Nitro, I had no idea how complicated it was. Thought he simply shoveled coal as a fireman, not so. This information will also help a great deal when I use the small coal stove in the basement during power failures. Which I'm slightly afraid of when using.

I found this interesting to see how far they had advanced in such a short time

I heated with coal in a garage when I was younger.
It's not that hard to do if you pay attention to it.

Now dirty...that's another issue :D

This is probably much more applicable to the present time than 100 years ago, but the main reason I like trains is because riding in one is possibly the most gentle form of transportation there can be on the senses. It's smooth, it's quiet, without sudden starts and stops or bumps in the path. The landscape just glides by me and I can fully immerse myself into it without worrying. If I get bored I can even read a book or something with a much less likelihood of immediately getting sick. No other form of transportation gets close to how enjoyable a train ride is.

I just wish there were more of them where I lived. :( I feel severely deprived.

Clicking on 'like' seems such a poor commendation for a beautiful locomotive as that Nitro.

Wow 567 per cylinder. My largest truck's motor is 638 V8 cubic inches. Wilbur's (1994 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4) started life out with a large block Chevy with a 572 cubic inch motor.

To the trains!

Where is that train in the world ? I'm struggling. It looks like Australia or possibly North America. It certainly isn't the UK and is unlikely to be anywhere else in Europe.

I've had a lifelong interest in trains and everything connected with trains. That means reading train timetables, maps, diagrams and travelling on them. I've done Amtrak, the French TGV, Japanese shinkansen and trains across India.

It was my obsession with trains which got the ADHD specialist to suggest I was also on the autism spectrum. ADHD and autism means specialist interest. For me, that's trains !
