Travel/Holiday forum

I was thinking if a holiday/travel forum may benefit some people here. Some people it will be interest for and it could encourage some to post.
With autism travelling may be an interest for some as well. I don't know how well used you can write in off topic, but a dedicated forum might be nice as well.
I had a question myself on travel, but didn't wish to post it in the off topic section.

I would enjoy a travel section. I don't do crowds gracefully and tend toward solo trips or trips to places without crowds. Lots of nature.

Me as well. I have taken day trips in London. It has been years since I have been on a proper holiday now. The last breaks I have been on have all been one day day trips abroad flying and taking the Eurostar( booking early for a better is helpful). I went to Paris in a day to see the Louvre and Mussee de Orsay exhibition and also Zurich in a day to see the Rhine falls and a museum. These have to be highly planned out but these short trips are possible. I have been considering Berlin solo as well.
I also looking for some well humble countries.

I purchased a used travel trailer last month (link to photo album below):

The Roll Model

It has some minor cosmetic damage from hail and I need to get the air conditioner repaired. Other than that everything works. I have a remote employment position and I can work from wherever I have Internet. I'm going to spend most of this summer working from that trailer next to rivers and lakes.

We don't go on vacations other than to visit family and after my grandpa died, my dad declared that there was no reason to go out that way either. It has been about a decade since we took any vacations in the sense of actually going somewhere which as I already said was to visit family when we did. I do like to imagine vacations sometimes though.

This is a problem for me as well. My wife sees vacations as opportunities to visit her family. I see vacations as opportunities for fun. Since her family is anything but fun, we are at cross purposes.

I will be planning a road trip in late spring to collect trilobites in Utah, and then maybe get to Wyoming for fossil fish.

[Added] For the trilobites I will base myself in Delta Utah and may also get out to get some Snowflake Obsidian and maybe go to Topaz Mountain. Delta has a wonderful museum dedicated to the Topaz Japanese Internment Camp which was nearby.

At least when I booked my last trip in 2022 day trips abroad in Europe could he had for pretty cheap with Ryan Air or Easyjet. I would encourage people to do this if they feel confident enough even alone. I wrote a full breakdown here of my last trip the planning and observance of time tables that went into it. It is in the link in the post.
Day trip plans from London to Zurich, Switzerland.
Berlin would be pretty much the same. It is quite tiring to map out like that.
I have read good things about Denmark to, but there isn't any waterfalls for me and Berlin does. I need to work on improving my confidence to in going alone again as it has been quite a testing two years on since. . I am a bit of a loose end and could do with breaking it up with a bit of day travel if able. Firstly though I need to renew my passport. I will start that in a few days. I read it takes about three weeks to come. Hopefully Berlin or Denmark, here I come in 2025.

I’m going to Switzerland and Sweden for sure and maybe also France (I want to visit Mont Saint Michel) and possibly Serbia. The latter has alps and also is very cheap compared to other countries in Europe.

I’ll go to a concert in Zurich and spend time seeing Switzerland from the water - canoeing and camping. In Sweden I’ll be visiting with my grandson and daughter-in-law.

I’ll be gone four weeks, traveling alone. I bought a Eurail pass and can go anywhere in Europe.

I'm just waiting for the school holiday period to be over and then I'll be going a few places too. Just as Velociraptor says I don't do crowds and right now almost everywhere will be crowded.

So far around Australia our holiday toll is 13 drownings, 3 dead bushwalkers and around 70 dead from road accidents. It's not a good time of year to be out and about.

In the last few years all my vacations (as such) have been driving the Canadian prairies, hanging out in small towns and exploring quiet back roads... The population east of Calgary is rather low...

Sometimes I'll be on the road for two or three days and book a motel in one of those small towns, generally dirt cheap and a great place to explore from there, with my camera of course

Sometimes wonder if it's really a vacation because I'll return with far too many photos to sort through and edit  But it's still worth it

I LOVE to travel. I have travelled, and continue to travel, extensively, gathering experiences and memories. It would definitely be one of my enduring Special Interests, and I would enjoy talking about and sharing photos wherever we can fit it in.

If anyone is interested, if you look at the A-Z Places thread in Forum Games, all my posts are my own photos. (Except just a couple, where I could not find the photos of places I had been, so used someone else’s. These will have acknowledgments with them.)

I have considered going either to Berlin, Cophenhagen, Belguim and Colongne.

Eurostar at this point for me probably would be easier. I had a look on there website and they go to Colongne in Germany. From Colongne I didn't know if you could get to Berlin easily. My birthday is in March and I am hoping to take a one day trip on that date to one of the above listed countries in my first sentence. Prices are really good right now if I book. Just thinking as well though, it would be nice to have my birthday away in March. Once I planned that when I went to Paris in 2019 and it got cancelled by Eurostar strikes and got pushed back to July and I really enjoyed going in the warm weather. I could do two right. I have just ordered my new passport as well.

I just went to Santa Fe, New Mexico for 5 days. (For those outside the US and not familiar, New Mexico is east of Southern California and directly west of Texas.)

I went with family and pretty much the only thing I knew it was a historic, artsy town. I ended up loving it, although admittedly we didn’t really leave the Plaza, which I felt strongly parallels with the New Orleans French Quarter, very often. (I recommend seeing both - screw ISIS; the recent attack shouldn’t deter anyone - but there’s much more to New Orleans than the Quarter.)

When we went up to a ski town, Taos (about an hour away) to check out the active Pueblo Native American village nearby as a day trip, I was absolutely floored by seeing the Rocky Mountains for the first time.

We also went to nearby Albuquerque and did an interesting guided walking tour of its Old Town, but honestly aside from some shops and the Sandia Mountains outside the city, I wasn’t too impressed overall.

This is the first time I’ve left the South in years, and the quickly apparent cultural differences between my home region and the West immediately inspired me to start traveling more often. I think my next trip might finally be solo. I’ve been nervous to do something alone until now.

There are regular trains between Köln and Berlin (several a day). It would take about 5 hours.
