Truthful but not thinking you know the truth?

Everybody uses logic, they just don't use very much of it. Sometimes they use it improperly - like getting the basic rules of logic messed up. That is why we must teach it to them =)

Really? I've no way of knowing that. Being 35, I'm not going to believe that, sorry. Nor can I insist they should ALWAYS use logic. Besides, I can't say I do or that I'm any better at doing so than anybody else, so it's not dealing with any of the disputes that I encounter in my life. Yawn, sorry.

Well, as humans we all use logic at some point or another. Some people use so little of it that it very nearly seems they never do. But ultimately everyone must consider things like "I need to work to get money" which is a logical deduction, however simple.

For the most part, I don't think that logical behaviour is a 24/7 requirement any more than you do, but there are areas of life that operate better on logic. Arguments are probably the one field that absolutely demands proper logic - due to them essentially being an art of intelligence. So when debating or arguing it is often important to correct any poor uses (or lack of use) of logic so that the problem can be solved maturely and quickly.

Well, what you need to be reminded of is that we are defining logic as the use of rationality. Basically, if we use a reason or a circumstance as a means of justifying an action we have used logic. So if I say that I went to the store to get some bread, I have used logic. Even if that logic is so simple that it required very little conscious thought on my part, I have still engaged the logical portion of my mind in order to choose to walk to the store. If I had no interest in bread, would I have walked to the store? If I can answer "no" then I must conclude that my walk was logical on the basis of needing bread. If I were to think that I was going to walk to the store regardless of my need for bread, then I would have not made a logical decision, but rather an instinctual decision.

So logic is surprisingly widely used, but there are frequently cases when people for-go logic and the results can be somewhat strange. Things like unplanned pregnancies (failure to use protection despite the intelligence to know to use it) or the ever-dreaded and common act of female shopping... which is basically a hormone appeasing instinct to many, resulting in bad use of finances...

How about going out for a walk? Just because you like doing that sometimes? Is that 'logical'? That, at least, would be harmless, if not.

Yes, there are some harmless logic-free decisions. But there really aren't any harmful logic based decisions that I know of. So it is safer to tread on the ground that causes no harm, then to dance on the ground that is rarely safe.

Even for decisions that do make 'logical' sense, it's possible the person did go by instinct or feelings to make it. Many times, logic allows plenty of choices and some way to pick one is usually needed. What use then?

Well, that may be true, but logic does not necessarily imply that there are multiple choices. Logic is just the means of acquiring a solution by using an intelligent system. It is possible to train a person's instinct to know the correct or best logical decision so that the decisions can be made without thinking, but the initial process of training oneself to do that is indicating that the basic reason for all the choices made after that are somewhat logical, even if the logic was used prior to the decision point.
