Viruses/Anti Virus Software?

I've heard that for Windows, Microsoft Security Advantage is pretty good, although I can't confirm since I don't use Windows.

Lately I've been using Comodo Internet Security. It seems to do a good job, though I'm certainly no expert. It has a firewall and the whole package gets good reviews. It also came with a Chromium browser called Comodo Dragon which I've pretty much replaced my previous favorite browser (firefox) with. I like it a lot, and it's supposedly more secure than Chrome. So far I've had no problems with any of the Comodo stuff and it all seems to be good software. Best yet, none of it cost me a dime. Anyone have any information I should know though?

I don't feel Avast has been that great for me. AVG doesn't seem too bad, and I haven't heard of most of the other ones. Malware Bytes is more strong for (temporarily) getting rid of viruses rather than preventing them. If you use Firefox a lot, you can use NoScript, which helps a lot and is free or donation. Zone Alarm has a free version of a firewall that works pretty good. I believe Black Ice does too, if that's what it's called. Firewall programs can be hard to learn and work with if you've never used anything outside of Windows firewall, but it's worth the effort to try it out. Having someone to show you initially can help a lot if you're only slightly good with computer stuff.

I use Microsoft security essentials on my VM running on the Mac. Since I rarely use Windows for anything besides my flight sim, there's little need IMO to go crazy with "high end" AV & Anti-Spyware software. The best defense against getting a virus is not surfing the obvious sites where malware is known to be present or pirating software. I also disable or uninstall any plug-ins not used on a regular basis. I'm not so worried about viruses since I use a Mac most of the time, but it's smart to always practice safe computing no matter what OS you use.

My mom recommended Microsoft Security Essentials so I installed it today. I do NOT recommend Panda. We had it on another computer and after a while it started acting like a virus and we couldn't get it off. We had to have an expert do it.

Avast and Spybot-Search and Destroy, both are free and i never have any problems.

I second pacman. Run linux and then laugh in the faces of all those that use caveman operating systems. HaHa-I'm looking at you windows...
