... to being able to read even the most subtle changes of expressions and tone of voice, coupled with paranoia.

Even though I did suffer ridicule as a child, for not being able to read people's expressions. I would rather go back to that time of not being able to, because for someone who is highly sensitive, it is evil to deal with.

Just be aware that it could lead to an oversensitivity. When the emotional centers of your brain are on "high alert", your logic centers are not working well. You are in a condition where irrational thoughts can creep into your consciousness.

This is more a result of anxiety. Having worked with someone for decades and truly suffered from this, I know it can become serious and effect any interpersonal relationships you might have. The mood swings. The thoughts that people are talking about you behind your back. The distrust. The controlling behaviors. On edge and easily triggered. The accusations. Good days and bad days, and when it was bad, it was almost unbearable for people around her. Even her motor skills were effected by subtle hand and wrist shaking/tremors and jerky, abrupt movements. It was not good.

I was also wondering if perhaps the paranoia is allowing you to fill in the blanks with unreliable interpretations of expressions and tones.

How do you know your interpretations are correct?
