What are the pro's/con's of a diagnosis?

That's what everyone says until a pedophile comes along, or you abort your child with downs syndrome.
Sorry, but it's the truth.
My social skills teacher says the same thing, but when I try to explain to her about the stigmas towards things like pedophillia and stuff she just gets arrogant and says it's just wrong. Apparently it also makes me one when I defend them.
Yeah.
I enjoy making controversial posts o_O.

I look at these things through how it affects others. Doesn't matter to me if the person is under the misguided notion that they aren't doing anything wrong, or even that their acts are beneficial, in the long run if they can't learn how to coexist in society after being incarcerated in an asylum, than they should very much be put in jail. Keep in mind that a jail is really just an asylum for people who don't want to conform to legalities or have broken a law, or are so anti-social that society has deemed jail time as the only fair way for them to [temporarily] live: a period of time or life without the freedom of choice to harm others.

Yes, in the UK everyone has free health care. However, getting a diagnosis from the NHS literally takes years.

As for the pros and cons of getting one, it depends on the person, and how old you are. Some people need it to be secure with the fact they're on the spectrum, and if you're still in school a diagnosis will get you support, a statement moreso.

Really ? Odd how I got mine in a couple of months XD :P

I think you must have been very lucky, Michael. :P You're the only person I've heard of that's been dealt with so swiftly by the NHS.

I can't remember how long mine took (I wasn't aware I was being diagnosed) but I highly doubt it was a year. Most likely a few months. It was through the NHS.

Mine took 6+ years... :).
I was being assessed and they thought they hit the nail on the head(I hate that idiom, it makes me think of skulls smashing :() with semantic pragmatic learning disability and then it turned out I had AS too when I was like 10. I got the actual dx when I first met the psychology guy though I think.
IDK if I remember too much though.
Or how long it took to meet the psychology guy.

6 years? Good God! How many tests did they make you  do?   :o
Well, I only saw the therapist person a once every few months, and idk really.
My Mum said she'd been trying to get a diagnosis since I was like 4-6 years old o_O. IDK though. We didn't talk about it that much when she said that.
The therapist was only trying to fix my semantic pragmatic impairment thingy(which I don't think people can really tell I had a language problem anymore- but I do have problems with my voice quite a lot), so she would test my general language abilities like identifying objects, what would happen in certain events(try to verbalise), etc.
I also didn't have the same therapist for more than a year so yeah. It would have been hard to pick up.

Ah so it wasn't the same Doc taking 6 years to figure it out.  If it took my Doc six years to diagnose me with anything i'd report him for being slow.  :D

Must be.

Well, the biggest pro for me is not having to creep myself out wondering whether or not there is something wrong (or right?)... now I know there is. XD

Pro: Extra help in school, I become obsessed with things but that could benefit in certian ways. I'm obsessed with computers and now I got awards and stuff in school I'm top in the year for IT.

Con: I suck at socializing. Although I'm starting to get better.
