I am practicing. It is a slow process for me. I understand the principles but I haven't developed the sense of feeling yet for when I have gotten a pin above shear. It's okay, I am good at persevering. I do hope I can become good at it because it seems like such a perfect fit for me. Just me and an object and extreme focus, like I was born just for that kind of work. I can't figure out why else I was born. Still wondering about that part.
I got excited hearing about you getting a service call. That would be so neat to have people call you for a solution. I also do ropework and for a while I fantasized that people would get to know me well enough that if they were doing a sales window or restaurant ropeline, show ropeline or even Santa stuff, I would get the call. Seeing the poor ropework that I do, it is painful. I also had the idea that maybe I could work at a nautical themed restaurant teaching knots table-side to the kids before the orders came and maybe tying up food to go in a nice way. Like many aspies I just want to do what makes me so happy and like so many aspies I very much need a way to support myself. If you have found a way, you are living one of my dreams.
Regardless, I really enjoyed learning about how the closer mechanisms work. I have wondered for so long what was in there. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a lecture series and people could post about their obsessions and those interested could attend a talk. We could learn so much and having that kind of socializing and support could make many of us so happy.
it takes also different pressures in practicing the picking to get it just right that you can pick it and not bind the pins while putting pressure on the tension wrench.
as for the service call, most of the questions I get, are online only, I hardly ever have to go see it in person to work on it, it's even harder to do without a driving license or a vehicle to drive more less a business license to advertise my service to fixing door closers, so its more of word of mouth for those who privately own businesses if I ever did have to go touch one or those who trust me(relatives)
my last local was actually of all places, a funeral home, they had no idea what some wrench was for that came with their hold open arms for their door closers, so I had to teach step by step for the 1 guy how to adjust the hold open and what the wrench was for. ironically that my dad never was too enthused with me helping people with their closers, and the day his body gets taken to the funeral home, thats when I get the question....
as for the lecture series, I have thought of that, one brand in particular I suggested it to as its a family owned brand, Hager hardware in St Louis, Missouri. plus I never had experience in crowds, I not sure if I can handle the public speaking part of it to give lectures to big groups, matter they be aspies or salespeople or the workers for the factories that make them.
only way I can do that, youtube, that I am ok with, due to I am not in a room full of people and too much at once, just in the privacy of my own home and just me and the computer, those I done as well, if you have youtube, look up name JLD902 or do video search for "jess the door closer doctor" why I use youtube for this, many times 1 out of 5 will google their problem and since google serach engine spiders look for key terms to create the list of results, I want to be seen and helps the person out farther and gives them a chance to see the videos I made as well as a way to contact me if they need to, I also do the same for facebook as well,

here is where I cover many things on door closers as well, please feel free to read, like and comment on anything or ask questions of your own about them!!
if I was to work for the brand themselves (such as Norton or Rixson or LCN) they keep pushing for people to be more outgoing and become pretty much a salesmen, and that can be stressing in itself, if I was to do anything at the factories (or remotely) I prefer technical product support, and even that, the people that work there now are kinda scared of me since I know a whole lot more about it then they do!
