What are your thoughts on Disney's new Star Wars movies?

Topic.

So far I think they're OK, my only complaint is that Solo: A Star Wars story could've featured more of the back story of Han's debt to Jabba the Hutt, and they didn't really need to bring Darth Maul back either.

I've been posting in a group on Facebook for a while commenting on Star Wars in general, till I got fed up of complaints from butthurt Star Wars geeks who hate Disney about Episode 8, seriously it wasn't THAT bad IMO.

So anyway, what's your thoughts on Disney's iterations of the Star Wars franchise?

I think the majority of hatred fans have towards the Disney Star Wars films is with Rey - who just seems to be wearing so much plot armour that she she appears to have no flaws, is able to do everything better than everyone else with little to no effort and can overcome any obstacle without so much as a scratch.

Compare that to Luke, who also had to go on a journey that would result in him becoming a greater individual but undergoing many trials and obstacles along the way that made him have to overcome his flaws and also cost him - one of the most notable of which was when he fought Vader in Empire Strikes Back and got his backside handed to him; complete with getting his hand cut off.

I do think the haters have had enough of the limelight now. I grew up with and loved the original trilogy, was mildly disappointed with, but still enjoyed the prequels, and thought the new saga movies were fun. Force Awakens was very heavy on the fan service and Last Jedi tried really hard to shake things up and surprise the viewer (and it certainly succeeded, if not in the way they intended. Canto Bight was almost as big a sore thumb as Jar Jar though!)
Of the Disney movies, Rogue One is actually my favourite. It's formulaic but exciting, popcorn adventure throughout, and K2SO is an amazing Droid character. I only saw Solo a week or so ago and I enjoyed it for what it was - a humorous romp in Star Wars clothing. It didn't feel like a Star Wars movie tbh, but it was worlth watching. It reminded me of the trilogy of Han Solo novels written by Brian Daley in the 80s - all set before Han met Luke on Tattooine in an area of the Galaxy outside Empire influence. They were really good, adventurous reads.

What are you doing ? Why you bring that up again? I tried to forget about it xDD ( lol im kidding but you know if you start a SW topic I will bring my salt xD)

Had a good time watching TFA,cool fun and decent movie , cool to see your old movie getting an HD update, rogue one was one of my favorite movie experience in theatre.
The final battle scene with the OT ships and fighters make me feel like a kid litteraly and it felt amazing.

BUT THEN THEN CAME TLJ, man I already told you how I hated it but I am not kidding it made me even more depressed after watching it. It's actually one of the latest event in my life that put me sooo low that it forced me to seek for help , weird I know. I guess I owe this movie something in a weird way.

I never considered myself a huge fan but this movie felt like I was watching someone getting killed and at the very same moment you realized you actually loved that person. Worst movie experience in mywhole life. Hostel 2 is near ( but its for another reason I folllowed my friends and I didnt except such a gore movie and it realy disgusted me and disturbed me, so yeah watching TLJ felt disturbing and disgusting at some point.)

I'm glad you liked it but did you look at any video complaining about the movie with structured argument? I understand if you did not because many of them are way too long , but there is a lots of well made criticism on the internet about that movie.
You know I enjoyed TFA and I admit it looked cool but was average, or I loved terminator genesys even if I know the movie was bad.

Enjoying a movie doesnt mean it's good and vice versa. I realy didnt like Thor ragnarock but I can't blame the movie for it, its just because I didnt like what they decided to do with Thor not how they did it.

On a story telling perspective it's easely the worst one this is at least something that should be a non controversial opinion.

Many many scene during the movie just put me out of the movie because of how it felt out of nowhere, or litteraly make me feel outraged. If you realy want to know I can do a bigger post with the worst plot points/scene of the movie if you want a detailed opinion.

And its not because I followed somekind of hate train on youtube, it was actually quite the opposite on youtube when the movie came out and it was horrfying like I was on a parrallel unniverse, the first wave of youtubers who got invited to see the movie were realy positive about it , then many many people started to do some videos about how bad the movie was and bigger channel did the same.

I think J.J. Abrams has really strayed from what makes Star Wars great. George Lucas really knew how to make Star Wars fantastic. J.J. Abrams has been a disappointment.

I actually like Rey.
But my husband (who's a Star Wars fan) put on Solo yesterday and I fell asleep. I thought it was pretty bad.

Funny I just re-watched Last Jedi last night. They're pretty I good think. Fun to watch. I thought Rouge One was really good. I haven't seen Solo yet.

None of prequels and sequels and spinoffs are as good as the original three. But that doesn't mean they automatically suck in my opinion.

Film is art, and art will always be subjective to moviegoers. Though in this case you need to factor in some extraordinary considerations:

* The Star Wars Saga is 41 years old. The fan base was bound to fragment over time alone.

* It has changed creative and proprietary hands from George Lucas to Disney. Reflecting an inevitably different "look and feel", despite consistent improvements in special effects.

* Time has forced a transition of actors portraying some beloved characters. In the cases of actors Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban, the latest incarnation the Star Trek franchise has been quite successful with such a transition. For others like "Solo's" Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover, apparently not so much.

* The movie going public is easily bored with characters and scenarios they already know so well. At some point it's inevitable that the studios will not be able to keep pace with increasing expectations.

So the fans are split over what used to be considered "sacred" to many. What was once a labor of love to George Lucas is now just a business formula to Disney. That's all. It's just a matter of when these franchises all begin to go on "life support" and how the studios choose to pull the plug.

In the meantime I suppose meaningless arguments over such considerations will persist even long after the last and final film is released. Whenever that may be.

As for "Solo", <yawn>. I'll wait for it to show up on television at no additional charge. I may do the same for the latest installment of "Jurassic Park" as well.

I fancied Rey, OK I know I'm probably loads too old for Daisy Ridley, but heck, I still would.

I've been a SW fan for most of my life. I was an adult when the Prequels came out. I remember being entirely underwhelmed by Ep1. Yes it looked really, really good & the aesthetic of the setting was slightly more polished than the dirty aesthetic of the original trilogy (as it should be). But it was also painful in many moments. To say George really knew what he was doing is not something I agree with IMHO. The Original trilogy was good because George wasn't the one with his hands in everything. Empire is usually held up as the best of that trilogy, & it was not directed by George. He has his strengths but when it came to the prequels what he really needed was someone to say "no George, that's stupid..." He didn't get that...

When the new movies came out, though, I was pleasantly surprised by TFA & thought TLJ was ok. No not the best in the franchise by a long shot (Empire is still better), but not nearly as sucky IMHO as some people made it out to be. Rogue One was fantastic & Solo was ok. Not every movie needs to blow my socks off, just entertain me & hopefully expand on the worldbuilding a bit (something I am very much a fan of!).

Garbage, complete garbage. Not even Mark Hamill likes them! If you know anything about Mark Hamill, you know he's big into nerd culture, so it says a lot that he hates episode 8.

I've got Solo on now on Blu Ray. pretty decent, ignore angry Star Wars beards who hate Disney, they need to shut up anyway IMO.

Solo was good. Not incredible, but entertaining. I picked it up too & re-watched it...

Here's some individuals going over the reasons whythey doesn't like "The Last Jedi", and some of the concerns they raise are legitimate. (Warning: Bad Language)
