What is your dream job?

It was Lihir Island, which is now one of the top ten gold producers in the world. My job was to map out the deposit underground using electrical geophysics.

At the time, I was living in a converted packing crate located in the caldera of a live volcano (where you couldn't go 100 yards in a straight line without stepping into a boiling water creek or spring, a steam vent, or boiling mud pit), with earthquakes once or twice a week, practically no communication with the outside world, utilizing a crew of local islanders who didn't speak English but didn't matter because they were usually whacked out on betel nut by noon, and where I had to come up with the term "Disaster du Jour."

Just to be clear, that was the good part. The descriptions start getting pretty bad after that.

Like I said, I was pretty well burned out after that.

What kind of souvenir do you bring back from a trip like that? Malaria.
That sounds
You could bring back a jar of lava if that is probable and it did not burn the jar.
not many people get the chance 2 live in a volcano but it sounds scary

I am unable to work a job but in a reality where I could I would want to do something with animals. Maybe a pet sitter.
I get like that too, I have dreams but I am not sure I could handle a full time or even part time job.
I did work at McDonald's when I was young tho
But I am really not sure I could do it with my disabilities, mine are simply autistic dreams.
But I love animals too

I had my dream job of exploration Geology-Geophysics. After a four month nightmare project on an island off New Guinea, I was so burned out and had repeated bouts with malaria, they decided to let me go. I subsequently work for another company doing petroleum and natural gas work, but they went out of business.
It Is hard being an autistic I am sensitive too.
But I'm glad u had ur dream job 4 a while and am proud of you.

I couldn't have a job now at my age and disabilities, but I had dreams of what I thought would be the ideals when I was young.
I touched upon some of them while going to university.

Artist that wasn't starving. lol
Actor in Sci-Fi or fantasy movies. Of course, to be in the Star Trek movies for sure.
Singer/songwriter. I did write several songs that were never published.

I took acting, voice, art, music in fine arts university, so I got a taste.
I did become a model for Barbizon and an instructor there also.

Beyond that, other things I would have found interesting were astronomy, astrophysics, archeology, geology and philosophy.

I love study of the paranormal and got a taste of that experience when I got an
Associates degree in metaphysics in the 90's and had the experience of teaching it myself for college I attended.

Ended up being a pharmacist for a long time. Enjoyed that.

But as a child, when people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up,
my reply was rich.
Fell short of that. Bill Gates was my most admired person.

I already have my dream job. I'm a dog trainer and I also do dog daycare, boarding, and dog grooming. I'm self-employed and I earn a pretty comfortable income doing something I love doing.
It's not necessarily an "easy" job though, because dogs are dogs, and people are people. Both can be unpredictable.

Other jobs I dreamed about having when I was younger were a veterinarian (can't because I don't like blood or surgical stuff), a gourmet chef, a fashion designer, a professional musician, a wildlife biologist, a park ranger, a cinematographer, a cosmetologist, a professional artist, a professional athlete, a horse trainer, coast guard/search and rescue, a social worker, a personal stylist, and an interior designer.

Other jobs I have actually had in real life:

- Photographer
- Graphic designer
- Hair and makeup artist
- Nightclub DJ
- Retail manager
- Inventory specialist
- Video editor
- Professional show dog handler
- Public relations director
- Childcare/camp counselor/babysitter
- Dog training specialist at an animal shelter
- Audio, lighting, and stage design at a nightclub and at a theatre
- Teaching art and music lessons
- Farm hand
- Manager of a dog grooming shop and more than one dog daycare (not my own companies)
- Horse care
- Dog training specialist at Petco

Someday I hope to buy more open land and start an animal sanctuary.

Honostly. I think being a stay at home dad would make me happiest. Since you don`t get any money for that I think I have a job that is part of my top 3. The other 2 are things I think I would like. But when I really think about it I would not last in those jobs very well.
I`m something between a TA, counselor and Janitor at a high school. The social part is hard, but I have enough freedom to retreat enough to balance it out on most days. It is starting to get harder thou.

But during the covid lockdown in the Netherlands I had to go to work 1 or 2 days a week in a school where only 40-50 people were present (normally it is between 800-1400 depending on what classes are given). The rest of my time I spend at home with my children and my wife who works part-time. For me, those 2 or 3 months were the best months out of my entire adult life.

So if there was a way to get the money I need and be a stay at home dad I would do that without hesitation.

So
#1: Stay at home dad

Top 3 (potentially) paying jobs:
#1: Having my own gym (as a personal trainer)
#2: Having a Petting Zoo (this one is more so because it would make my wife really really happy and I would like to help along with the animals)
#3: Current Job. (Janitor, with TA and counselor responsibilities)

I used to want to be a performing musician. In university, I took nearly a year or piano performance, as well as harpsichord lessons but I learned early on that I don't have the stamina for public performing, nor the personality of a performer.

These days I don't even want a dream job; I just want to do things which make me happy, and get income through Social Security. Jobs make me stressed and there's a mental block in my head which I cannot overcome.

That sounds amazing. I love everything you did, you are so amazing, such fun jobs.

Me too, those are just dreams for me as well I do not care about careers so much and want geniune happiness❤️

I really liked a Oracle programming job that I had with a debit card company.
I was able to debug and improve their code, but the biggest problem was that they offered no sandbox. My changes had to be made to live code. One of my later changes caused a slowdown which, in turn, caused a bottleneck that had to be recovered.

On top of that, I think that I disappointed them that I did not take a family attitude toward them right away. And I was overheard saying so. I can be polite & professional with strangers, but I do not feel comfortable in adopting[?] them when I barely know them.

not to mention the fantastic weather and wonderful insects that have no regard for personal space. Eh?
Read accounts from WW2 of fighting in those places.
They were very detailed about the misery involving the islands.

Job would have been much easier now with the invention of the muon detector.

After a lifetime of adult employment, I have no such dreams. Some jobs I liked more than others in an unending highly dynamic work environment. Where I had little control over my destiny in terms of employment.

So I suspect the next best thing is retirement. Yeah. I'll settle for that.
