What is your level of Autism?

High functioning "classic" ASD. What used to be called "high-functioning autism", and that's assuming you differentiated between autism with delays in language and/or speech and autism without (aka "Asperger's")...whatever, the professionals call the shots and it still makes no sense to me.

By happenstance, I was actually diagnosed less than a week before the change to the DSM-V, so the specialist diagnosed me both using the DSM-IV and DSM-V. IIRC, it went like this:

DSM-IV: Severe Asperger's Syndrome
DSM-V: Moderate-to-severe autism (meeting all the criteria except those that had to do with developmental milestones)

I was diagnosed PDD-NOS under the old DSM, never got re-evaluated for the new criteria. I've been told I'm high functioning. I seem to struggle a lot with sensory issues and emotional regulation, more than most of the people I know who have Asperger's. Though socially I seem more aware than them, I even can be okay enough that often people don't think I seem autistic, even my primary care doctor and therapist said this until I got to know them.

My assessment states "Level of impairment: Moderate (Level 1 - Needs Support)", but I'm pretty sure it's the same thing as what other people have been calling "Mild".

I don't think that anyone with a diagnosis is truly "Mild". If it really were mild, there probably would be no need to diagnose it - it would be more along the lines of Broad Autism Phenotype.

My interpretation:
Level 1 would be moderate (although many people refer to it as mild)
Level 2 would be considerable (although many people refer to it as moderate)
Level 3 would be severe

I have diagnosis as high-functioning autistic, because I speech delay in my childhood.
Otherwise, high-functional autistic people are very similar to aspies. Therefore, I call myself aspie sometimes.

Originally I was diagnosed Aspergers with comorbid
anxiety disorder.

Now with the new levels it is getting confusing.
They seem to be rating verbal development then
intellectual and finally executive functioning.
From reading how it is now being done I would be
Level 1 yet there are parts of level 2 that fit.
Had no problem with speech development,
yet initiating speech with others is poor.
Intellectual development was above normal.
Then the word 'support' and the amount needed is now
in there. And what exactly does it mean?

I found this article on the changes and it also reads
that especially the word support is vague.

What Are the 3 Levels of Autism?

If anyone would like to read about the new levels.
This is a short but to the point read.

Is there no way of correcting the word before posting?

I think that I fluctuate between level 1 and level 2, or am level 1 for some things and level 2 for others. I'm fairly independent, but do have some difficulties. I think that people can tell that I'm different, but are too polite to say so most of the time.

In basic terms (using my family as an example),
  • ASD3 requires a guardian,
  • ASD2, a representative payee, and
  • ASD1 could benefit from a life coach (or comparable), if one is available.

it's hard enough posting without people asking me can I do more

I have nerve damage on my left side ,mild heart disease ,asthma from panic disorder !and very very mild muscle damage from infection in some areas of my abdomen, legs ,arms ,cervical spine ,lumbar spine ! The iPad as usual doesn't recognise a lot of the words I say which distresses me .
so on top of being autistic ,having memory loss from infection I also have people criticising me not saying you are criticising me !about my grammar!

Ok, thank you for the reply.

However, I was not criticising you. I was asking you if you were able to correct the errors on you ipad - and the question means literally that, no hidden criticism. I'm not familiar with the ipad and the software you use, so I was asking if there was a means to correct any mistakes. I was not aware of your disability. I assume that you would rather not make these mistakes. If I had wanted to criticise you, I would have done so directly.

Criticise me instead. I must've done something by now
:)
But I'm not criticising anyone.

While I admit that I do find it frustrating when I can't understand automatic text written by ipad or other devices with automatic texting systems because of the sheer volume of mistakes in them, I am aware that it is often a software issue and not necessarily the person's fault.

These automatic spellcheckers and systems for writing text very often don't do justice at all to the person writing the text.
