I also seem to be the only one who listens to older seventies-era heavy metal. No one listens to Budgie, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motörhead?

I love Sabbath and Motörhead! Also Iron Maiden! I like some Judas Priest too but I've not heard a lot of their music.

Regrettably I had a Nu Metal phase when I was a kid :anguished:

I love metal and related music, playing guitar turned into my biggest hobby because of this

Bands I listen to a lot are Sabaton, metallica, megadeth, Motörhead, dragonforce, alestorm, rammstein, avenged sevenfold, gloryhammer, ghost, slayer, solstafir and more but those are the ones that stand out the most right now.

Oh heck yeah. That's what I grew up with, and I still listen to Sabbath and Priest especially.

It's been a long time since anyone mentioned Budgie :-)

Lots of votes for Dragonforce :3 I've got two of their albums. They are really fast! I also listen to Dream Evil and Powerwolf:wolfface:

I used to listen to Rammstein, and I still have all their albums.

Lately I've been listening to an older band called Sanctuary. They released two albums in the eighties. One was called Refuge Denied, and I've been listening to it again and again.

I have every album except You're All Living in Cuckooland X3 I like their first four albums and Power Supply best. Plus that EP--If Swallowed Do not Induce Vomiting. Awesome name.

Has anyone heard of All Ends? I just downloaded this album and it's pretty good, very melodic with clean vocals, synths and strings in the background, not sure what genre it is though, maybe Symphonic? :)

Opeth, emperor, mayhem, immortal, in flames, dark throne, slipknot, rammstein, deftones, fear factory, Metallica ( up to black album ), slayer, sepultuta, nightwish, lacuna coil, Arcturus, type o negative - to name but a few - I lost my love for music for awhile but getting it back big time now

What about bands like Camel and King Crimson - not necessarily metal but timeless check out Camel moon madness and King Crimson in the court of the Crimson King both are great but a more progressive feel than metal

Meshuggah used to be one of my favorite bands. I still love them, but I can't really pinpoint down a favorite artist right now. Devin Townsend is also a sexy beast and I love his music.

Code Orange; discordant sludge/metalcore hybrid that makes me feel like I'm in a really creepy old house in the middle of an earthquake that's about to get destroyed by a landslide (in a good way) reminds me of Converge, Swans and the Melvins

and this is the exact same band under a different name, performing in an emo/pop punk style, I really like both and Reba Myers is so cool :)

....so let's begin!

The classics - Metallica, Megadeth, Skid Row, Iron Maiden, Testament, Annihilator

Reggae metal (it exists!)- Skindred

Slightly shouty - Killswitch Engage, 36 Crazyfists, In Flames, Shadows Fall, As I Lay Dying, Unearth

Great if you have to march somewhere- Rammstein, Sabaton, Civil War

For badass lady vocalists - Triaxis, Black State Highway, Iwrestledabearonce

Power and widdly solos- Hammerfall, Dragonforce, Gloryhammer

Spanish metal- Warcry, Breed 77

For songs which tell stories- Sonata Arctica.

More commercial - Avenged Sevenfold, Alter Bridge, Volbeat, Winery Dogs

Proper evil- Dimmu Borgir,
Satyricon, Malevolence

Completely bonkers- Nekxrogoblikon, Sikth

Jolly devil-worshipping - The Heretic Order

Rising British metal- One Machine, Skreamer, The Dead Lay Waiting and Fury.

My phone doesn't permit me to add videos to posts, but if you like metal even a tiny bit look for Fury 'Britannia'. They're the nicest guys in the world and always make time to talk to me despite me being an awkward weirdo. [emoji14]

Nice, broad selection, Metalminx!

Right now I'm listening to Candlemass, but here's what I've been playing multiple times in my car as I'm driving to and from school:

i liked Suicidal Tendencies, White Zombie, Ministry, Motörhead, Anthrax, Metallica, Black Sabbath and heaps more that i cant really bring to mind at the mo when i was going through my metal phase but i always preferred punk, there is no melodrama with punk it just gets on with it without poncing about,

I love both but identify with punk more, which is why i like hardcore so much cos it has elements of both, especially during the late 80s/early 90s crossover period when it was metal-influenced without being full on metalcore.

'Cause we are GWAR
And we'll go far
We've got guitars
We'll eat your car
GWAR, GWAR, GWAR, GWAR

best lyrics EVER!

I missed an important category from my list the other day- metal played by massively talented cellists (and a briliant drummer) Apocalyptica.
