What song are you listening to right now?

These guys have been a favorite of mine for a couple of years now. I gave them a break after listening to them constantly. Now I am listening again.

Interestingly, though Ali Project appears to be a solo project they are in fact a duo. Arika Takarano takes the spot light as the lead vocalist, sporting ostentatious period costumes and outrageous club wear. Meanwhile Mikiya Katakura resigns to the background, indestinguishable from the backing musicians in his understated formal wear. Despite this, he is the mastermind behind all of Ali Project's arrangements.
 
One of the best bands in the 1970s. Of course almost entirely forgotten. Almost. ;)

Their classic line up was:

Mark Cottrell - Ex Zoom and, I do feel I need to place a bit of a warning on this one, it is not explicit or crude, but it is not child or work safe. Mark is a unique individual with a style all his own. He is a one of a kind artist who's music can be anything from pop and rock to folk, electronica and, something that is best called Cottrell style. He is also a friend and, never objects to a bit of free publicity. This one is Cottrell style. *The word "genitalia" is in the chorus of this song.*

 


Here's another great 70's band, that lives on still. They too did not get much in the way of recognition, in the states anyway, but were one of the greatest innovators of the time and broke ice into many genres to come. Music critics and such were endlessly frustrated due to being unable to categorize them... because the genre's weren't born yet.

I'll call this their classic lineup, circa early 70's

Bryan Ferry – vocals, keyboards
Andy Mackay – saxophone,
Paul Thompson – drums
Phil Manzanera – lead guitar
Brian Eno – synthesizer
Eddie Jobson – synthesizer, violin
