What was the last movie you watched?

"I, Tonya" (2017)

Oh my. An awful movie about an awful Olympic skating prodigy Tonya Harding, raised by an abusive mother and fostered by an abusive husband. With an IMO awful casting choice of the lead role by Margot Robbie, who probably got the role given her willingness to learn to ice skate to a minor extent. But she never looked the part.

No doubt the producers must have figured that Harley Quinn and Tonya Harding were interchangeable personalities. Typecasting knows no bounds in Hollywood. Were they right?

It was the kind of movie that made me want to take a shower after watching it. My bad, I should have passed just hearing the movie presented as "a dark comedy". Though it just goes to show you how badly some folks want the money for the film rights, even if it humiliates living people for the remainder of their lives. And they were likely paid considerably more than thirty pieces of silver in the process. Oh well!

"Day Of The Jackal" (1973)

Well done docudrama about an anonymous assassin and the law enforcement and security personnel of the French government hot (and cold) on his trail.

Ezra.

Watched it about a year ago in the theater. Streamed it last night. Much better because I could use captions.
I miss too much in the theater because I can't follow the audio fast enough. Captions really help. This time, I was able to understand a lot more, giving the movie some point.

I am curious, has anyone else here seen the movie? Curious what you might think.

The Towering Inferno (1974)

While dated and a bit long, it was well made and kept my attention despite the near 3-hour runtime.
I probably won't watch it again as its ending was rather bittersweet, but I'm glad I saw it.

"Casablanca" (1942)

Oddly enough this was the first time I ever saw this recognized classic.

A great film, especially for it's time. Tragic though to see people smoking in nearly every scene. RIP Humphrey Bogart, who died prematurely of esophageal cancer.

That one's on my "to watch" list.

A Scanner Darkly, from 2006 apparently, based off a book I’d never read from 1977 I believe. Odd name, think some things went over my head a bit, maybe I’d understand more if I read the book, but overall glad I’d watched it. Very interesting visual style. The story revolving around drugs, criminality, entrapment, etc. and related themes were all pretty relatable even if actual drugs or anything of the sort never factored into my life. Just the feeling of ostracism, of almost having out of body experiences even, just all too familiar at lower points. I guess what’s strangest to me is some sense of humor here and there that other films like this don’t tend to have as much of.

Before that, there was Sonic 3, the source material of which is all too familiar considering Sonic Adventure 2 was one of my first Sonic games. There’s obvious changes I wouldn’t normally be fond of, but understand it’s for the sake of their own artistic integrity and continuity to a degree. Had similar worries about the first film, but it and the sequel blew me away to the point where I really only care about these films rather than the games themselves anymore. Kind of a sad realization lol. My only major gripe I guess is I kind of wish the comedy between Eggman and Gerald had been toned down a bit in favor of more serious scenes, but then that might have been a bit much to ask of most of the audience being kids.

The movie Bog from 1979 is so awful.

Dynamite wakes up this gilled creature in a lake. The locals row boats in the area, only to encounter it. Then they meet a witch, who is connected to the monster. 🛶

Some low budget movies are just really gammy and hard to sit through. 😄
