What's Good Today?

Last night, I walked further than I have in about three years. I used my elbow crutches, and walked with my daughter all over the neighborhood. Up and down hills. Took the long way to the park and back.

It was glorious. It is a great challenge, but I would like to spend more time out of the wheelchair.

Today is the first flip-flop day of the year. And that's a big deal. What that means, is that this is the first day this year that the ground is dry enough and the weather warm enough to wear flip-flop shoes outside. :D It sounds insignificant but it's so nice.

After a long winter of having to put on thick winter shoes everytime you go outside, today I could simply jump into my flip-flops and wander around. My feet can breathe again. So nice, you barely have to stop to go outside, you just walk into the flip-flops and keep walking. It should be a national holiday, Flip-Flop day. Or "Thong Day" as they for some crazy reason would call it in Australia, @Outdated ;)

Someone gave me a perfect pink cupcake today. I don’t actually want to eat it as it is too sweet for me, but it was the sweet sentiment that really made me smile.

before I got to that bit I was going to suggest that you could stir your neighbours up by telling them it's warm enough to start walking around in thongs.

I bet that would get you some funny looks. :)

If you were to eat it, you might try how I do it:
Nitro, I am right there with you. This is exactly how I tackle a cupcake. Just makes sense this way. But, I don’t even think you need a knife. You can separate the bottom half with a little squeeze from your fingers.

A memory triggered by the above cupcake. When I was in Canada, there was a store that specialised in making muffins. They had a blueberry and cream cheese one, and it was divine.

I also put on weight, despite doing a lot of walking.

For mother's day, I gave my mother an assortment of yarn and a crochet hook. She used to like to crochet when I was a young girl.

She gave the whole bundle back to us. She told my daughter and me that what she wants is for us to make her a granny square blanket for Christmas. It needs to be large enough to fit her king sized bed. Alright.

So that's what we have been doing.

It's kind of funny. My daughter claims she hates crocheting, but she keeps snatching the project away and then working on it, telling me over and over how fun this is.

I got a really nice late birthday gift from my uncle. And I am enjoying a little decaf coffee after having lunch.

My house companion is doing better in rehab after his strokes.
He may get to come home end of next week.
