What's your favorite bird?

Living in the Sierra Nevada mountains in northern California I see the Cedar Waxwing every so often. A beautiful bird that travels in a group. Their calls are really soothing to me for some reason.

We also have a nest of humming birds who live here year round but we can get as many as 60 regulars at our feeder in the summer.

My favourite bird will always be the potoo. :) However, since there's already a photo of one in this thread, I'll instead post a photo of my second favourite bird: the white-tailed kite!

Oh, I forgot one. The elephant :-)

The elephant is a dainty bird.
It flits from bough to bough.
It builds its nest in the rhubarb tree.
And whistles like a cow.

I'm very fond of wagtails. There are a lot of them living in the area where my school is situated. Sometimes, when I'm studying in the library, I look out of the window and a few wagtails are hopping along across the grass outside. I like to watch them hop a few steps and then wag their tails, then hop along and wag their tails again... You get the idea. I think that wagtails are beautiful birds and very cute too.

I love to watch crows. They are so adaptive. City workers are always trying to outsmart them and get rid of them and their failed attempts make me giggle. I say put them to work!

This is my favorite bird, his name is Dexter and he's a turquoise green cheeked conure.

This is a fun question! Mine is a tie between the Cassowary of Papua New Guinea/Eastern Australia, and the Lyrebird of Australia. The Cassowary is a very large, shy forest-dweller with a bit of a reputation for its powerful kick, known to severely injure or occasionally even kill humans who fall afoul of it:

The Lyrebird is famous for its incredible mimicry. It can imitate anything from human speech, to the sounds of musical instruments, car engines, and camera shutters with startling accuracy. Sadly, in its native habitat, it is often heard mimicking the sounds of the chainsaws and logging machines that will ultimately mean its doom.

I volunteer at a bird rescue (sanctuary), so I love them all -- we have macaws, amazons, lovebirds, lorikeets, parakeets, cockatiels, cockatoos, & more! I don't currently have a bird of my own, but I hope to adopt one from there eventually.
Here's me with my favorite umbrella cockatoo, Brandy:

Crows, Ravens and Peacocks. ^_^

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore.
Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou," I said, "art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore —
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore" - Edgar Allan Poe

I forgot about the Tundra Swan. I see them on the Chesapeake! I also like the Mute Swans but they are not indigenous to the area. But they are all Beautiful.

Birds were definitely my obsession growing up. I fell in love with African Grey Parrots, specifically the Timneh subspecies. They are a little darker in color and smaller than than the Congos. They are so clever and sneaky! I had them growing up and imagine building a bird room to retreat to once my kids are grown and out of the house. I would love to adopt one now, but they need a lot of attention that I just don't have the time to give. I was and probably always will be the bird girl. As a kid, I had posters of different parrot species plastered all over my bedroom wall. My mom and I both shared this interest which was great (some of my fondest memories growing up). Looking back now it all makes sense :)

I posted three over here. I like hermit thrushes. One has to hear the song echoing through the forest for the full effect.

LOVE the composition & color balance in both photos, but I especially like what you were able to do to highlight the female.

Well, thank you very much. Now lean in a little closer and I'll whisper what I did to get the highlighting effect........

N o t h I n g. :D But don't tell anyone.

I'll answer for my son who is the Aspie. He went through a bird phase not long ago, and in general Raptors where his favorite. In particular the Harpie Eagle was his very favorite. They are spectacular, I have to say. I've always been a fan of the smaller raptors, like kestrels.

For me it has to be the amazing Lyrebird. They are incredible mimics. They can copy other animal calls, toys sounds, ringtones and even camera clicks n whirrs.

Also---the Pig or the Lady. Not sure which it is. o_O

Then suddy on a little twig
I thought I see a sight,
A tiny little tiny pig,
that sing with all it's might.

'I thought you were a lady'.
I giggle, - well I may,
To my suprise the lady,
got up - and flew away.”
John Lennon

The cheeky Kia
A Kia stole my packet of smokes once lol he was so sneeky about it too.
That led to me quiting the smokes though which was great.

And of course the Kiwi

WOW. I have an album named "Too Good to Miss, But I Didn't Do This." I credited you and included the link here. Are Harpies European? Asian?

The first bird I remember drawing was the
redwinged blackbird. I was seven years old
and the teacher said I was supposed to be
doing something else...whatever it was she
was talking about at the front of the room.

These birds nest and live in the marsh next
to my property. I can tell when winter is
getting broken because the redwinged blackbirds
melt enough/are encouraged/get warmer and
start making their sounds.
